8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Only for the diehard Cynster fans By Penny Black I honestly don't know why I bothered with this latest Cynster release. After finishing the previous book in the series, I'd promised not to torture myself again with pages of overwritten sex scenes, which have more in common with lessons in clinical physiology and metaphysics than lovemaking. But, old habits are hard to break; I've picked a copy up at the library. Until then, I never realized how difficult it is to fast forward an audiobook. As much as I liked Matthew Brenher's narration, it was a trial to skip chapters of filler just to get ahead in the story.What upset me most, though was that the book could have been so much better if it were shorter. Even with the standard Laurens' formula, the plot had potential and the characters were likable. But, endless rehashing of the reasons why the heroine couldn't marry and why the hero had to resort to subterfuge courtship threw off the pacing.So far, the new generation of Cynsters has failed to impress. Next time I'm in the mood for a Laurens' novel, I'll re-read the original Bar Cynster or the Bastion Club book.

The pacing seemed a little slow and there was no mystery, but the H/h were interesting and engaging people. There were several love scenes that were long and not particularly interesting. Personally, I do not need a detailed description of how every button is undone and I skipped over them. The main reason I did not give this book 4 stars is because of the "big misunderstanding". It was a good plot point and a way to have them in separate places, but we have to read through too many pages about what is going through the lead characters minds about something that could have (and later, was) settled in a few minutes. One of Ms Lauren's strong suits is they way she adds a lot of detail about the area her books are set in. I always go online ad pull up a map and look the places up.All in all it was a good book and I think I got my money's worth.

Although as usual very well written, it was very similar in content to a couple of her other books. I do enjoy family sagas but to be honest it was like reading Scandals Bride again. So come on Ms Laurens introduce some different scenarios into the Cynster saga.
