A must read By Erin My quest to read all of Craig Stephen Copland's original Sherlock-inspired novels continues, and I couldn't be more happy about it. Inspired by The Engineer’s Thumb, Copland's fantastic new take on the original Sherlock story amazes once again. In this installment of the adventures of Sherlock and Watson, an engineer's adventurous mother is kidnapped. After being turned down by Scotland Yard, he turns to Sherlock Holmes for help. Like the classic Sherlock stories, Copland infuses his writing and plot with twists, turns, and suspense galore to ensure that the reader is kept on the edge of their seat from the first word to the last word.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Intriguing New Story By NLB The Adventure of the Engineer’s Mom is Craig Stephen Copland’s latest Sherlock Holmes mystery novel. Set in the typical Sherlock era in England, with some of the familiar faces from classic Holmes books, this new mystery is centered around a brilliant young engineer from Cambridge University who is working on top secret research. The engineer’s mom is kidnapped, and it is now up to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to figure out who could have taken her. After being laughed at and turned away by local police and Scotland Yard, Dr. Watson saves the day by bringing the case to the attention of Sherlock Holmes. With much help from the kidnapped mother, and her close relationship with her son, Holmes is able to track her down and solve the case. The English setting and old-fashioned dialect lends to the intrigue of the entire story.
