By JLC13 With her usual flair for authentic dialogue and historical accuracy, Jackie Williams has produced a brilliant regency romance that is certain to satisfy. The sparks between untitled Geoffrey and privileged Charlotte ignite right out of the gate (horseracing metaphor, you’ll understand when you read the novel) and never let up. Time and again, Williams deliciously brings them to the brink only to have fate and their own insecurities conspire to frustrate their scintillating passion for each other. With scrumptious twists and turns, the author deftly handles their romantic odyssey with humor, intrigue, tenderness and enough sexual fireworks to make the reader desperate for these two to get together. Williams also adds a cast of quirky supporting characters—Coalport was my favorite—who help make what is already a terrific blend of action and romance even more enjoyable. Nobody transports you back in time more elegantly and eloquently than Williams. This is a must-read for the summer or any season.

By Elmer Nash A superb chatty narrative with charming descriptions and beautifully observed sketches set in decadent Regency London. I was totally enveloped in the period atmosphere so cleverly developed by Ms Williams, the fragile nature of respectability and how easily it could be lost by a compromising word at the wrong dinner party or a perceived slight at a ball had me entranced throughout the whole book. Lady Charlotte Denvers the loveliest of heroines is to be launched into London Society with her chaperone her Grace the Dowager Duchess of Ormond under the escort of Mr Geoffrey Talbot and a whirlwind of society engagements ensue.A daring new dance the Waltz, where gentlemen are allowed to place their gloved hands on a lady's waist and hold her fingers for the duration, is almost scandalous and diaphanous gowns are shocking the established wives whilst delighting unmarried and married men alike. His Royal Highness, the Prince, is in town and known to be a philandering roué and one who does not like to be thwarted. With a priceless diamond and a family's fortune thrown into the heady mixture you're in for an exciting ride through this sparkling and glorious age.A Gallant Gamble (Unrivalled Regency Book 3) continues a wonderful series which began with Silence Of Scandal (Unrivalled Regency Book 1), the second story being A Murderous Masquerade (Unrivalled Regency Book 2), each of them a stand alone novel in their own right.
