It’s the 1960s and the genius behind “The Twilight Zone,” Rod Serling, arrives at his studio for another day’s hard work only to find that a secretary he barely knows has been murdered. Also on the set is Gene Roddenberry, still a few years away from creating “Star Trek.” He’s in pre-production on “The Lieutenant,” his U.S.M.C. drama. And Roddenberry is also a former cop, so he and Serling are soon thrown together to solve the mystery. It’s not necessary to be a fan of 1960s TV to enjoy the story. The Reason Why and Whodunit arise naturally from the Hollywood setting and the human condition. That said, if you are an aficionado of TZ, ST or all those other shows we grew up watching, you’ll be rewarded all the more.
