A Yellow Rose from her Texas Cowboy By Victoria Pitts Caine After the Civil War, Anna Stewart and her fifteen-year-old brother, Edward, face a daunting new life. Their parents have died and the family home and candle shop have been burned to the ground by Union soldiers.The siblings make their way to Seguin, Texas, to their aunt and uncle’s mercantile. Anna helps in the store and Edward does odd jobs around town. Anna dreams of a way to make a home for herself and her brother and be able to support them. Edward’s care of animals is noticed by a cowboy from a ranch just outside of town and he offers him a job.Anna, wanting to protect Edward heads to the O’Brien’s to tell the owner her brother will not be working for him when she has a job proposal herself to cook for the ranch. The two settle in and Anna meets the owner’s son, Jacob, the same handsome cowboy with the dazzling blue eyes she’d seen at the mercantile.Through the next year with all the wilds of Texas including bad weather, cattle rustlers and wondering bears, Jacob learns he can’t live without her and she learns she needs to let God guide her life.Ms. Beller has written a delightful story of the Texas frontier. While the characters develop into the reader’s treasured friends, her delightful prose paints a beautiful picture of the Texas countryside and the Guadalupe River. I enjoyed this heartwarming story and strongly recommend it.

This is book is well written with characters that you will fall in love with. It is set in my favorite era for historical books, the Civil Ward era. I am looking forward to book 2 in this series. My thanks to the author for the pleasure of reading and reviewing her book. I received a copy of the book for this honest review. I highly recommend.
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Loved this book! By deedee62 Anna and her brother travel to Texas to live with relatives of her deceased parents. With her she takes her little brother Edward.Edward is offered a job at a ranch and as he is only 15, Anna has a big problem with that. She is afraid that ranching is a dangerous job and she doesn’t want her little brother to get hurt. As a result, she pays a visit to the ranch owner asking that he not hire her brother. Instead of not hiring him he offers her a job as well, as a cook to his family and ranch hands. He does this as a favor to her, so that she will be close by to watch her brother. Unbeknownst to this man, Anna is a very good cook and thus a win, win.Jacob, son to the ranch owner after having been away for a few weeks returns and meets the young lady he once saw briefly in town. He is immediately drawn to the beautiful girl, however he wants to concentrate on his job and not a woman, although feelings for each other get stronger.This type of storyline is what I really enjoy reading. The main characters in this book treat each other with mutual respect. There is none of the rude man/woman towards the other for a time. I can’t stand when one of the characters is especially rude to the other for ½ the book. While I do like to read about the man attempting to keep his distance from the woman, maybe because of past hurts, there is no need to be rude in the process.When I saw this book I immediately decided to read it because I believe you cannot go wrong with Ms. Beller’s books. I have read the books in her mountain dreams series (and await the next) and have already pre-ordered the next two in this Texas Rancher series. Kudos to this wonderful author.
