Review Another cracking good yarn in the Nicolina Fabiani series October 2014. Like book one, this compelling yarn held me from start to finish; only the interruption of a night's sleep prevented me from completing it in one sitting! Sterling Gate Books authors of The Ninth OrphanExciting adventure! October 26, 2014I hope the author won't mind my saying that there are all the ingredients of a Dan Brown novel, secret organisations, conspiracy, romance, religion, origins of mankind and all set in a turbulent Middle East. BillAnother great novel by Yvonne Crowe June 8, 2015I am a big fan of Yvonne Crowe novels and this one does not disappoint. This is a historical mystery novel fill with enticing and controversial subjects. It's a fantastic read, I have enjoyed this book immensely. Daniel - Secrets of the White LakeBreath-taking adventure December 15, 2014I continue to be impressed by the sheer erudition and intellectual curiosity of Yvonne Crowe who has a style very much her own and puts her own romantic, high adventure stamp on a tale that in the wrong hands could become overly academic and dry. All it would take would be Ron Howard to notice this one and well....who knows? James - The Last SynnTrue Page Turner  August 9, 2014I found myself not able to put this book down for a long while. It has a broad reach covering a lot of hard topics. This book does a fantastic job and having a female heroine at the lead is a major plus for me. Christopher - Conquest of Heroes

Once again Yvonne Crowe has made an exhaustive study of her subject which is one of the reasons I enjoy her books so much By Mark Nemcoff The First Madonna is a well thought out and thoroughly entertaining book that questions the origins of mankind and religion. Once again Yvonne Crowe has made an exhaustive study of her subject which is one of the reasons I enjoy her books so much. This is the second book in her Nicolina Fabiani series, featuring the fearless reporter and introducing a new companion/love interest in this book, David Baron, a Professor of Ancient Languages who brings a new twist to her.. Together they embark on a quest throughout the Middle East to discover the secret of a prehistoric relic which The Knights Templar named The First Madonna and attributed their fabled power and wealth to.Nicolina is temporarily grounded from her journalist career when a militant Mullah places a Fatwa on her for exposing his militants in a less than favorable light during the Syrian War.The Knights of Rhodes who morphed into the Knights of Malta inherited the Templar Knights holdings when the latter organization came up against Pope Innocent V1 and King Phillippe 11 of France, which led to their downfall. However, they could not locate The First Madonna and the power she possessed so they could harness it for their own purposes. Once again another rogue group of the modern Knights of Malta, become aware that Nicolina and David possess a clue which is leading them to the whereabouts of The First Madonna and they are hot on her heels. The story takes them through ancient sites where mankind practiced the worship of different Gods in the Middle East, which are fascinating reading.Another winner for fans of Dan Brown, Kate Mosse and Steve Berry.

BAILEYThe First Madonna, book No. 2 in the Nicolina Fabiani series by author Vyonne Crowe had me at the title. I love books that have some kind of historical backstory to them, and this one does. The book centers on Nicolina Fabiani, a reporter for a major television network. She is sent on an assignment in the Middle-East, and on the plane going to Syria, she meets David Baron, an Archaeologist on his way back to recover some artifacts he discovered. While there, Nicolina catches something on film she wasn’t meant to see, and the people doing it don’t want the world to see. Running for her life, she and her camera man come back into contact with David, who helps them escape.David is more than a simple archaeologist though; he is also a trained member of Mossad and works for them. Once she is safely back in Berlin, they run into each other again, and at a dinner, David tells Lina of his family and what they went through during World War II. But he also tells her of an artifact he found while on a dig, and once she is completely enthralled with the story, she asks to go along, the reporter in her wanting to know everything. They work out a disguise for her since she is so well known, and off they go. Thus begins the adventure. This is a very well-plotted out, well-written book. There is enough adventure, mystery, history, and thrills to keep the reader interested. Lina is a smart, independent woman, and in my opinion, David is just the perfect man. Strong, sure, brave, all the things a hero should be. There were some minor issues, the biblical references mixed with the historical sometimes gave me the feeling I was reading another book, but that was so minor that I easily overcame it. I like strong women. Too many times authors make them hopeless romantics who rely on the man to save them. Lina is so not this way at all.Overall, I loved this book, and I am now a fan of the author and will be looking out for more from her.

This book has a little of everything in it! I found myself digging the book and story while Nicolina and David dug for artifacts! I enjoyed everything the story touched on. I have been to Beirut and I know Yvonne has too from her descriptions. The travel genre is well covered. She covers another interest of mine which is music with some interesting tidbits I didn't know. Then there are historical tidbits I am fascinated by as well. What a great read! Nicolina is a great character, she is a very spirited and independent contrarian. I love it when she ends up doing things she initially says she will never do. The mystery gets you hooked right away and then you go on a wild ride. In the fiction world it doesn't get better than that! If you like historical fiction, mystery, romance, travel, and learning stuff, READ THIS BOOK! I am looking forward to some further adventures from this character and this author.
