One December night, in the sleepy Cotswold village of Chilton Crosse, a drifter named Ben collapses on George and Mary Cartwright’s snow-covered doorstep. As Christmas cheer spreads throughout the village with a Dickens-themed festival, Mary nurses Ben back to health, but she becomes curious about the secrets he seems to carry. On Christmas Eve, one of Ben’s secrets accidentally comes to light, forcing him to confront the darkness of his past and to rediscover the faith he once knew.

Seeking the Star (Chilton Crosse Book 3), by Traci Borum

Review "Borum took a classic Dickens piece, and turned a story about finding the Christmas spirit into a novel about finding faith during a time of personal crisis. . . . this, my fellow book-lovers, is a five star tale. Mark it as a must-read in your holiday queue." ~review from Andrea at Genuine Jenn"This Christmas tale is warm, cozy, tender and full of patient love. Find a warm, comfy chair... and get to know, Ben, Mary, George and Mac. Get reacquainted with friends from previous Chilton Crosse books as you read your first Christmas story of the season. Read it with a box of tissue."  ~review from Katie's Cottage Books"Traci Borum's story rivals, in my opinion, Jan Karon's tales. . . It is a sweet, joyful, well-written story. I look forward to more from Traci Borum."  ~review from Chat with Vera"This is the shortest of the three stories so far, but no less inspiring.. . . a wonderful Christmas story with fitting quotes from Charles Dickens at the beginning of each chapter."  ~review from BigAl's Books & Pals

About the Author Traci Borum is a writing teacher and native Texan. She’s also an avid reader of women’s fiction, most especially Elin Hilderbrand and Rosamunde Pilcher novels. Since the age of 12, she’s written poetry, short stories, magazine articles, and novels. Traci also adores all things British. She even owns a British dog (Corgi) and is completely addicted to Masterpiece Theater–must be all those dreamy accents! Aside from having big dreams of getting a book published, it’s the little things that make her the happiest: deep talks with friends, a strong cup of hot chocolate, a hearty game of fetch with her Corgi, and puffy white Texas clouds always reminding her to “look up, slow down, enjoy your life.”

By Pirate2240 As a book lover, almost any time of the year is exceptional when you find a great novel, but by far for me, Christmas books are my favorite, especially if they contain a great message behind them just perfect as we begin to roll into the holiday season. Traci Borum has written a truly inspirational and heartwarming book, Seeking the Star and one I can honestly highly recommend if you love Christmas books half as much as I do.Late one winter's night a drifter collapses just outside the door of an elderly couple, George and Mary Cartwright, in the English Cotswold village of Chilton Crosse. They immediately take him in and nurse him back to health, not knowing why he's been out in the weather or what his story is. They fell that when he is ready he will open up, and for now set about making him feel welcome. They invite him to stay through the holidays as a winter storm approaches and soon learn that Ben has a past that he isn't ready to share just yet. He finds solace in working among the people in Chilton Crosse as a way of staying busy enough until it is time to move on, a journey of no destination and one he wishes he could find a sense of peace with.As the days move forward, Ben soon begins to make small changes, first shaving his overgrown beard, then his hair and finds a confident in Mac MacDonald, a man of many talents. Ben begins to let down his guard with Mac and is able to share a few things with him while the two working on the nativity set for the town. He is that wise old sage that offers advice without needing to know the full story and can see that Ben is still working something out from his past.As more time unfolds, Mary is able to get Ben to open up more as George shares the story of the death of their son Sheldon and how they are able to find peace without him being with them any longer. Mary tries to talk to Ben about God, but Ben has simply given up on the God he used to know. She explains that only through her faith in God have they found that peace to keep going in spite of their difficulties, but she knows she can't push him to reveal what he is trying so hard to forget. The only clue is a silver angel that Ben keeps close to him at all times.I received Seeking the Star by Traci Borum compliments of Red Adept Publishing for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I can't imagine dealing with the things that Mary and Ben have had to face and still hold onto their faith, but I also know that without it, you are truly locked in a prison of your own making. My only hope after finishing this book is that Traci will create a sequel to tell us what the outcome of Ben's life will be. If not, I guess we can all dream up our own outcome to what happens next, but I believe that is what all readers want when they read such an exceptional and heartwarming story like this one. I've truly been blessed to read this one and now it's my turn to share it with you in hopes you'll pick this one up and add it to your Christmas collection. It has now found a permanent home in mine and thus a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. This is the third book in the Chilton Crosse series.

Borum took a classic Dickens piece, and turn a story about finding the Christmas spirt into a modern novel about finding faith during a time of personal crisis - a time where faith and humility are most important to allow the soul to heal.Ben is running from his life, or the sudden, unexpected turn his life has taken. Refusing to deal with the human stages of grief, he runs. He runs and literally ends at George and Mary Cartwright’s door step - two people who know tragedy and grief all too well. But, Mary fights her despair with diamond-strengthen faith, and further submerges herself into the holiday festivities when the darkness wants more than anything to engulf her daily activities. Ben admires her strength and is naturally drawn to her disposition. He envies her will for life, for religion, for faith, and to alleviate the pain deep inside. But, the truth of our human nature is shared pain and well-timed declarations heals some of the most broken hearts, and keeps old wounds sealed. Mary and Ben need each other, and learn that you don’t have to agree with fate to accept it.Borum manages salvage the simplicity and charm of Dickson’s English countryside, and turn it into a modern-day classic. Needless to say, this, my fellow book-lovers, is a five star tale. Mark it as a must-read in your holiday queue.~*Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are honest and my own.*~ For this review and more Christmas reviews, visit www.genuinejenn.com.

Once again the author's skilled writing takes me to the quaint, English village with characters I have come to adore. The storyline was powerful and inspiring at the same time. Brilliant job once again! Bring on the next book in the series!
