By Kindle Customer--Kim Cintron I am still thinking about this book and all of the characters, the lush descriptions, and the haunting, heartbreaking, and loving way the story unfolded for about a week now, since finishing it. Just saying it's amazing or wonderful, or "well worth the read", does not even begin to cover how I felt while reading it, and definitely does not describe the impression it has left on me as the reader. It begins as a loving tribute to a dear, lifelong friend, related to a grandson by his grandfather. Journey's End is a home, that is being bequeathed to the grandson Aiden, and his grandfather Quinn is desperate to give Aiden the background of how it came to be, to impart a sincere and clear picture of how it came into being. Following a story told mostly by reading a journal left behind by Quinn's best friend, Declan, he unfurls a history full of tragedy, salvation by love, and a never-ending search for belonging. My eyes are filling with tears as I recall bits of the story as I write this. It's lovely, it's warm, and it's told with such care by someone who truly knew to listen to the characters. It will stay with me for a very long time, and I will find myself reading it again at some point, just to revisit Journey's End. It is one of my favorite stories and you'll be missing out if you pass this by......

I fell in love with the characters from the start of the book. It is a book of friendship, love, loss, forgiveness, and finally life eternal. It shows how you need to live life each day as if it were your last and that family is the most important thing. Also, that money may buy things but friendship and love are everlasting. The relationship that Declan has with his family is amazing. They didn't have much in the way of material things but they made up for it in love. Without Quinn and his family Declan would not have survived his tragic loss. Over the years Declan and Quinn's friendship goes through many stages. Declan never forgot where he came from and always thought of others.I can say that I was crying while reading some of this wonderful book because I got lost in the characters lives. The love that Declan found with Eilanoir transcended time. She was his soul mate. And finally, the relationship Quinn and his grandson,Aidan have is so special. It reminded me of my relationship with my own grandfather. Those who are fortunate to have grandparents in their lives need to listen and learn what they teach us and love, family, and friendship are all powerful and should never be forgotten.I recommend this book to everyone!

Admittedly, the friend is from the area and knows the author. That said, I really enjoyed the book because I really felt as if I was walking though the Vanderbilt mansion and its now, defunct, gardens. One reviewer said that this was an easy read, but I would expand on that to say that; there is a quiet and peaceful elegance to the mansion that translates to the novel and that quiet and peaceful elegance made for an easy read. It was like the author teased the history out of the mansion. As far as technical skills go, the characters, even when living in the filthy streets of NYC, had dignity, intellect and an ethical morality that was refreshing. The narration and dialogue were conversational and believable. The story line is a good one and the pace is good. I was sorely tempted to jump to the last page only once or twice. Curiosity did not kill this cat, however, and I did not peak ahead. All in all, it really hit the mark for me.
