"The Archers" begins an exciting saga of action and adventure set in medieval England. It is the tale of a serf who rises to become the captain of a company of archers and leads its survivors back to England from the crusade. Not all of the archers return as a result of intense fighting, but some of the former serfs and free men do return—as hardened veterans determined to improve their lot in cruel and brutal medieval England. This exciting novel combines military historical fiction with a family saga. "The Archer's Castle" is the second novel in the saga. William, his brother Thomas, and William's young son George finally reach feudal England with the surviving archers and become embroiled in a war with the Earls of Cornwall and Devon. "The Archer's Return" is the third novel in this great saga. William leaves his son George and his brother Thomas in England and returns to the Holy Land with his company's ranks filled with newly recruited archers—to earn coins for his family and men by helping refugees escape from the victorious Saracens and by using the galleys the company acquires to carry pilgrims and merchants between the crusader ports in the face of the Moorish pirates who dominate the Mediterranean Sea. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Good plot but poor writing By Dick I will read the other books in the series since I can get them for free from Amazon Prime. The plot is good but the author has never heard of an adjective or adverb. The characters while intriguing, are flat and nearly lifeless. There is little to no description of the scene nor expression of feelings from the characters. There is also a great number of typos and omitted words. It would never get past an editor. The story itself is told in the first person but the person shifts from section to section and sometimes it is difficult to determine who is telling the story.

So much for the good old days. Series would be much better if Mr. Archer had hired a decent proofreader. These books have some very poor grammar with extra words in sentences mostly words like a, only and the.
