A physically and mentally wounded Vietnam veteran is thrust back into the civilian life and into the dynamic changes of the investment industry of the 1970s and 80s.

In Vietnam, he flew for the 101st Airborne Division. Now Lt. Phil Johnson awakens in a hospital bed, disoriented and in terrible pain. Wounded in mind and body, he faces a long road to recovery, facing PTSD and a potentially devastating physical loss. But the trauma of his combat experiences barely scratch the surface of what lies ahead.

He discovers his college education and military experience amount to zilch in the job market he faces. His painful introversion works against him in the dynamic post war world which seems in conflict with his personality and beliefs.

When one of the richest men in the world gives him a job it is total surprise. To succeed, he will need to learn new skills and adapt to massive changes in society.

Difficulties await him as old habits and past events return to haunt him. He must summon up the courage that served him well in Vietnam to overcome the challenges of the financial world, and to make a decision that could change his life forever.

An Army helicopter pilot in Viet Nam, badly injured when he comes back home to face his demons and struggles as he reintegrates into civilian life. He forges a life for himself in a time of dynamic changes in society and in the financial industry where he lands. The book spans 20 years and is at times harrowing, humorous, profane, emotional and all too educational about the brokerage industry! (You may question your broker after you read this!) The author's obvious love for his clients, among them many Native American tribes, reveals while it is fiction there is a strong autobiographical component to the story. There is NEVER a dull moment in this wild and surprising true American heroes story. Be prepared to be entertained. What an ride! This is a DOOZY!

A facscinating story of life By FR The book provides a fascinating narrative of Phil Johnson’s journey from being a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, surviving the cut-throat mentality of the rising brokerage industry to finally becoming his own man and advisor. The author Dennis Gibb manages to paint a sometimes surreal picture of the financial industry and life within. His hero returns from Vietnam with both physical and mental wounds looking for a new career. Coming from the dysfunctional environment of war and death, he ends up in the dysfunctional environment of brokerage houses. Phil Johnson tries to create a life for his own, struggling to find a way to have success in his new profession, while still staying true to his sense of duty and honesty. Add to this his personal struggles with life and marriage and his belief in his lack of adequacy caused by the war and you get a captivating book weaving facts and fiction.Gibb weaves a great story. His hero, while struggling with his real and perceived shortcomings, never loses track of his sense of duty and his desire to do good. Johnson’s sense of duty and honor, honed by his own upbringing, culminates in transforming this duty and honor into a total understanding of fiduciary responsibility.

By Kevin Nett The book is a riveting gaze into the life of a man who cannot shake depression and his personal feelings of unworthiness despite his extraordinary success and driving will to succeed in life. Phillip Johnson is an obsessive compulsive and seemingly self-destructive war hero who later transforms himself into a self-doubting and woefully under appreciated genius of a stock broker. Far from a perfect man, he is perfect in his unrelenting survival of the meat grinder that is his life. The character, like the entire book, comes out winning (if not swinging) and leaves reader wanting more. My suggestion is for you to read this in Paul Giammati's voice as this is the actor who should portray Phillip Johnson in the movie...
