7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Fantastic Read for All Wrestlers and Fans of the Sport By Gregory Z Pendell Mike Fessler got the title right - Faith AND Wrestling. Faith comes first, then everything else in life. Wrestlers are a rare breed - a unique combination of mental toughness, incredible physical assertiveness and willingness to perform 1:1 "surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses..." with no one but themselves to rely upon. That is, of course, unless you are part of the rarest community of wrestlers - those who put their Faith in Jesus Christ and never step on the mat alone. This book explains what a genuine faith is and draws accurate correlations to one of the only sports ever referenced in the Bible - wrestling. If you have ever been associated with Wrestling, you should read this book - it is a value add proposition.

The Christian life is just like a wrestling match, it's a battle we must train hard for, and Michael does a great job of showing the reader what that battle looks like. If every wrestler could have the knowledge of this book before they get on that mat, their wrestling experience will be much better. If they apply what they learn they will push themselves harder than they ever had and it will all be for the Glory of God. I would love to see Christian wrestling coaches and athletes taking their whole team through this book. The impact would be great!

By Richard L Mitrisin I found it to be a great biblically based resource that clearly explains what the proper focus of each athlete should be. Fessler does a good job of using examples from scripture and blending them with personal experience. An exceptional resource for young wrestlers!

Lunsford I only found one purse in this collection that I would actually make, the others were either shapeless, drab, or awkward looking. Some of the pictures in the book showed that when the bags were held or hung by their felted straps, they would simply hang open or lose their shape.This book would be good for a beginner felter who wants to learn simple bag shapes, but for the experienced knitter/felter, it is a definite pass.

By Sarah P It's been months since I devoured a novel, let alone finished one, but I could not put this book down.Full disclosure: Joe Denham is a long-time friend and I'm so proud of his writing, especially The Year of Broken Glass.This is a beautifully written story of adventure, love, suffering and taking a hard look at the world we live in - and what we're doing to it. At least that's what I gleaned from it. I especially savoured the descriptions of B.C.'s coast from the perspective of a man at sea - in more ways than one. Highly recommend. SP

By John Daley The author tells a very interesting story about a group of men who formed in England and were lead into battle in the Mideast by Sir Richard Fowler. The book provides insight into what motivated the Christians to fight to recapture the Holy Land and Jerusalem, which had been taken over by Muslims. There are detailed descriptions of the battles that were fought; using tactics of the day. Readers will enjoy getting to know Richard Fowler and his crusaders as they journey from England to the Mideast and back.You won't be able to read this book and not think about the current state of affairs in the Mideast. It's is a quick read and easy to follow.

A book I can recommend to everybody By Bill Manuel A book I can recommend to everybody, because it is about everybody, and for everybody.Life presents all of us problems from time to time, and no one is exempt. But in today’s world we live in a culture that attempts to sell us the idea that we deserve to live in an idyllic life in a world where there are no problems, no disappointments, no failures. We are all beautiful or handsome and are entitled to– unlimited sex, drugs and rock and roll, or whatever turns your clock up. All this is accessible at your finger tips if only you buy the right brand of toothpaste, drive the right car listen to the right music and vote Democrat.Sadly, most of us, by the time we reach puberty have noticed that that idyllic world for some reason does not include us. So, we switch brands of toothpaste, and lo and behold… it still doesn’t work out according to the MTV script. So we do the obvious thing and start looking around for someone else to blame. After all it couldn’t be us – could it? Or, maybe it is? Or maybe it’s the 1%ers. Ah ha! Smothermon uses real-life examples of people who have experienced big problems and tells how God has been greater than those problems. He focuses on lessons such as the destructiveness of self-sabotage and learned helplessness, and the importance of remembering that God is the God of innumerable chances. This book does not sugar-coat Christianity, and in fact, Smothermon states that God does not promise that life will be easy, but that He is capable of turning the hopeless into the hopeful. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is experiencing a struggle of faith in their life or who is looking to strengthen their faith.

I've recently become a foodie and I'm enjoying trying foods from different countries and cultures. 'Irresistible Turkish Salas Recipes' has quickly become one of my favorite cookbooks. I feel like I'm eating healthier AND enjoying new cuisines at the same time. It helps that I love a great salad! The salads in this book are amazing. Very tasty and healthy for you. This book is full of one delicious dish after another. I never knew Turkish food could be so good. I had a party last weekend and all of my friends complimented every dish I made from the book! Quirky but instructional By Moonstalker It's kind of weird - the part about conquering Turkish cuisine (or should I say cosine?) reminded me of the conquest of Istanbul, and the author's not exactly a paragon of English spelling and grammar. But... it's $0.99, and it's salads. Plus, weird can be entertaining. I appreciated the lengthy section on eggplant/aubergines, and I suppose it does deliver on 'everything that is right about onion', although I have yet to muster up the courage to 'splurge on the goodness of lamb brain'.,

Dastardly Lords/Bk2 By NancyQ-C "Con" is a serious portrait artist about to have her first London showing at the prestigious Royal Acadamy Art Exhibition, a monumental accomplishment for a female in the 19th century. Her excitement is quelled when her space is given to the Marquess of Athelcroft. Upon confronting him and relating her displeasure, he wanted to made a deal. He will return her wall space if she will play his fiance for the Season, in order to placate his mother's constant pressure to marry. She has no plans to participate in the Marriage Mart, which her sister Lorelei insists upon, so she agrees.As with her first book of the Dastardly Lords series, I found the characters and storyline believable. Our rogue, Athelcroft, is humorous and playful, which only adds to his charm, and he is socially fearless. Without either knowing or wanting they, rather quickly, fall in love- we know before they do.Their mutual love of painting alots them much time together and they do a collaborative project for the upcoming show. But, as the saying goes, the best layed plans...well, they sometimes go terribly awry, thanks to miscommunication and interference of others.But issues can be resolved because, in this novel, our heroine does not swoon and her knees do not give out on her. She has finally learned to not settle for anything less than what she wants and deserves. She makes the plans for her life clear-but there is still room for love. Enjoy-II did!.

I really enjoyed The Marquess's Masquerade By Kristy Feltenberger Gillespie I haven't read many romance novels and I've never read a traditional Regency romance. (According to Wiki, Regency romances "are a subgenre of romance novels set during the period of the British Regency (1811-1820) or early 19th century. Rather than simply being versions of contemporary romance stories transported to a historical setting, Regency romances are a distinct genre with their own plot and stylistic conventions").I really enjoyed The Marquess's Masquerade. I instantly fell in love with the fiery Constance, whose nickname is "Con." She's a passionate, talented painter who has no interest in what other ladies are into including fancy dresses and marriage proposals. I also fell in love with The Marquess of Athelcroft because beneath his womanizing ways, he's an absolute sweetheart. Throughout the novel, I was rooting for their relationship to flourish...which it definitely did. I highly recommend!

Con and Athelcroft really pull you into their game of love. Their relationship is so full of wonderful dialogue that their characters come to life so vividly. I really enjoyed taking the journey with these two, to see where their relationship would go and how it would unfold. There are even some unexpected twists in the plot that intensify the story more. Very romantic and beautiful!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good story set in World War I By TracyK I know far less about World War I than I do about World War II. The subject matter in this book was very interesting to me. I did enjoy reading about this time period and the specific incident in history that this book is built around (the Zimmerman telegram). The characters including people from all walks of life and pointed up the differences in their lives and views. However I did have some problems with the book.The characterization is very thin in this novel. The most convincing character is Max Volkman, the German spy dedicating himself to thwarting the delivery of the Zimmerman telegram to the President of the United States. I sympathized with Volkman; his motivation is to prevent the US from joining the war because he does not want to see many, many more people killed or injured if the war stretches out longer and longer.His search leads him to a well-to-do, well-connected couple in Washington, D.C. The man, Edward Fitzgerald, is older; his much younger wife, Catherine, an amateur photographer, would like to be taken seriously by her husband. She is treated like a child and shielded from his problems. Coincidence brings Volkman and Catherine together more than once. Catherine's motivation and role was not developed enough to be convincing to me.The pacing of the novel is very slow in the first half. It improved greatly in the second half, and if I was only reviewing that half of the book, I would be much more enthusiastic.There are interesting elements along the way. I had the most sympathy with the police inspector in charge of the case. He knows he is in over his head and wants desperately to do a good job, but runs into roadblocks. The doubts and hopes of each of the characters related to the involvement of the US in the war and the horrors of war were described well.

If you simply want to read a fabulous story, this is it. Aspiring writers, if you want to see how to write a book, this is the one. The plot is superb, the characters believable, the historical events well-researched, and the pages demand that you turn them as fast as you can. Everything from bad boy rock stars to suffragettes!But what I found to be the most interesting thing was the ability of the author to find a vehicle in which she can bring in historical events that affect the contemporary characters. It simply is one of the best books I've ever read. I wish I could give it six stars. Trust me, it's that good. Recommend it? To everyone!!! Thank you Ms. Mallery for writing such a wonderful book.

By KathyFromFranklin I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful time period book – and it’s an especially great book for book clubs!I was tasked with picking a book for our book club – and I began a search to find a time period fiction book that had very good reviews. I found it with Sarah Mallery’s book ‘ Unexpected Gifts’, and that’s exactly what the books was full of – gifts! It is a great story telling about many generations of a family that was an American (and even international) history trip as well. I enjoyed how the book switched point of views between the various characters. What a treasure trove of rich family history Sonia found in her parents attic. What’s especially great about the book is that it lent itself so well to book club conversation. It made all of us want to journal a book to our own children! Our book club was especially lucky in that we had the privilege of having Sarah Mallery join us (via phone from CA to our group in MA) – that was my ‘unexpected gift’ to our book club! We SO enjoyed and appreciated her taking the time to talk to us. What a special night that was!

Young The author obviously has an imaginative mind, and a very good working knowledge of Nevada history. Anyone who has knowledge of the early story of Nevada's mining communities will appreciate the story, for the inclusion of so many old west characters, and will be surprised by the outcome of the book. Very creative writing, good story, wonderful characters.

It starts off as a fantastic Historical Fiction, with great character development. You know all the characters are going to meet up somehow. Then, suddenly the book makes a sharp left turn. I personally loved it, right in my vein of interest. I ended up binge reading it to finish because I didn't want to put it down.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful end to this mystery series By Susie Really enjoyed this last book in the series. It is probably my favorite out of all 4 books. Although there was more altered from the original P&P, I thought the different plot lines were executed smoothly and made me more curious to find out what would happen next. Faithfully sticking to the original plot would definitely have lessened the intrigue.

By books thru bifocals The Dark Darcy Mysteries were the first books I've read founded on Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. To be honest, it has been ages since I read the original and my memory as a grandma isn't perfect, but I can truthfully say that I believe I enjoyed Ms. Swan's version more than the classic (I did download P and P to test that so I'll try to get back to you at a later date!) Secrets was an extremely well written finale to the series, but to be honest, I hope the author will continue to follow Darcy and Elizabeth as amateur sleuths wherever life takes them... at least for awhile longer. I worry that Darcy's aunt has more up her sleeve to drive the couple apart. What is the secret behind Darcy's animosity toward evil George, and who is to say he won't make a reappearance into their lives? In the meantime, don't miss Lizzie's attempts to discover the mystery behind the ghostly music that issues from Georgina's antique pianoforte while suffering through Darcy's willingness to believe the worst of her and the scrapes she gets into as an independent minded miss. Will Wicked George win the day or Darcy's aunt get her way? Do Elizabeth and Darcy earn their HEA by placing their pride second to the love that grows between them? Does Darcy love Elizabeth enough to try again after her refusal of his first proposal? Hurry and download Secrets (and the first three books if you've missed them!)

The weakest of the series By Jerilyn The Dark Darcy series started out in a promising way, with a fresher take on the main characters and some welcome diversions from the original storyline. This last installment was definitely the least enjoyable of the 4, with a weak 'mystery' and a tired re-hashing of some characters. Ms. Swan probably should have tacked on the real proposal to the end of book 3 and called it done. Everything from the haunted piano (seriously?) to the swashbuckling finale was lackluster. Nothing captured your interest, no red herrings led you down the wrong path, the 'suspect' was right out in the open and when the mystery wraps up, there's nothing really satisfying about it.My main complaint is the 'you don't trust me!' plot device that has been used over and over (and over) in the previous books. Elizabeth sneaks around. Darcy catches her and assumes she's hiding something. Elizabeth IS hiding something. They both stalk off in a huff. Seriously, if Elizabeth and Darcy can't figure out a way to quit hiding the truth, and stop having a foot-stomping diva tantrum over every perceived misunderstanding, they're not really going to be the happiest couple in the world, are they?
