The echo of a gunshot pierces through Vauxhall Gardens, forcing Sophia Bexley from the ruined Hunter home and into the care of her ostentatious guardian, Mr. Dalton. Before the family departs London to take respite at Dalton Castle, Sophia makes a discovery about her dearest friend, Henrietta Belfield, and the enigmatic Hugh Dalton—son and heir of Mr. Dalton, and the master of Sophia's own heart. There is little reprieve found for Sophia within the cold confines of Dalton Castle. Soon abandoning the estate with a thinly veiled understanding from Mrs. Dalton, Sophia returns to her beloved Suffolk weeks before her coming of age. The pleasure of her homecoming is short lived. Already in a precarious balancing act between her principles and her affections, Sophia's future happiness and security can only come at the sacrifice of almost all she holds dear. Set upon the dawn of the expanded Regency era in 1795 Georgian England, A Thousand Splintered Paths is the second installment of the three part series, Sophia of Suffolk.

I daresay this book, the sequel to Sophia of Suffolk, was even more wonderful. I'm totally giving this book 10 stars!Once again, we are introduced to the characters from the first book, and the one character that never fails to make me smile is Mr Barrow :-) Such an eccentric. I believe he cares for Sophia in his own twisted ways."But do you not think the bridegroom himself would be rather offended to find a bridesmaid appointed, before he is even thought of?"Obviously, the Hunters are there as well. I literally screamed at how cunning and deceitful Mr Hunter was. But I wanted to throttle Sophia even more for being weak and succumbing to the Hunters all the time! Anger took hold of me and I kept turning the pages. That's how wonderful the writing was. The words somehow felt alive and real. As much I despised Mr Hunter, the incident that took place in the book finally made me feel sorry for him - and I stopped hating him.Let's not forget my reason for wanting to read this book - Hugh Dalton. I just had to know how it was going to be between him and Sophia. His constant change in attitude towards Sophia only gave me a whiplash! Damn that man! Oh, but I truly do love his character. So pure and gallant and everything a man should be.Without giving away anything, let me say that I understood Sophia's turmoils even better in this book. I could feel what she was feeling. When she was frustrated, I felt frustrated! Oh, and let's not forget the new character, Lady Helena. Cunning and fun, she's one character I started looking out for too.Overall, this book did not disappoint me. It was beautifully written and yes, we are left with a cliffhanger again. I can't wait to start reading Book 3 and join Sophia on her life's journey once more :-)

Sophia's journey continues with much drama, romance, and hilarity By Kitty Smith Readers who appreciate the class and elegance of classic British literature will fall in love with Sophia of Suffolk. The writing style is quite the blast from the past, and I love that Jamie Michele did not try to put a contemporary feel to a Regency era story. The second book in the series finds Sophia having dismissed the company of Sir Robert Fitzroy, and also Lord Ashbrook, while rumors around town insist quite the opposite has occurred. The social politics of Sophia's world are treacherous waters indeed!Mr. Barrow's numerous faux pas never failed to make me laugh out loud, mainly because he is utterly unapologetic for them. From the scandalous removing of his wig to mop his sweaty head to his hilarious, if crude, haranguing of pretty much everyone within range, he is a madcap character and ever a source of humor. The drama remains as high as it was in the first book as Sophia juggles good sense with heart's desires. One never knows which way Hugh Dalton will go as he tends to run hot and cold throughout the story. However I still find him an attractive and intriguing character and keep my fingers crossed. Will Sophia finally win him in the end? I do hope so, and look forward to the next book.
