By Mini Truth "Guinea Ghost" is an exquisitely written tale about a family that is disturbed by ghosts/demons from their past and present. It is set in the 18th century and depicted in third person present tense. While it is a short story there is lots of wheels turning at the same time. The main character is a girl, whom we see grow to a woman, by the name of Phoebe.Turmoil ensues when Molly a servant girl goes missing and is later discovered to be dead.Soon the story starts to bounce between the present and memories of the past--family secrets and past traumas begin to surface.The author has an incredible skill for historically accurate narrative in both voice and presentation. Also, there is a certain melody and flow to the prose that makes one feel as though one is reading a piece of poetry, or the lyrics to a classic song.As soon as you open the first page you will be transported to another place and time altogether. The syntax was also very polished."Guinea Ghost" has, without question, made me a true fan of MJ Holman's works.I'm definitely looking forward to reading more stories by this author.That being said, I highly recommend "Guinea Ghost" to anyone that is looking for a fictional tale, based on fact, that is also historically authentic and entertaining.5 Stars for sure!
