By Megan Sanchez I just finished Legend of the Dawn last night and here I am tonight, ready to review the next book in the series. I read every chance I could today and I found this one to be much better than the first. I think if you enjoyed the first, then you will love the second. The story picks up about 15 years after the first book left off. The blonde baby in the care of Taloma is now a teenager on the brink of adulthood. He is intelligent and wise beyond his years facing many challenges that come his way. Luke has spent a solitary life as an army scout and is welcomed among many tribes. Much of his success has come from the advice Pierre gave him when he was young and he spends a large part of the book trying to avert a war between the Indians and the American government. The older Luke/Tom felt less awkward and the story kept a nice pace throughout. I was disappointed that Breanne wasn't that involved, but I expect she will be in this next book. Im keeping my fingers crossed for a Luke/Breanne reunion, and preferably earlier in the book than later. By the end of the book I felt sorry for Sarah, but also very irritated. Im hoping she will redeem herself in this last installment. The plight of the Indians was heartbreaking and even more so because that aspect isn't just part of the story. It's the real history of how they were mistreated. Surprisingly, my favorite storyline was that of the now teenaged Chaska as he maneuvers his way into adulthood and possibly chiefdom. I can't wait to see what happens next!

As I would finish one book, I could not wait to start the next. The factual events that were included were accurate to time and place as well as to the actual participants in many. I loved the way it was written to show the plight of the american indian. So many books are written to imply they were nothing but vicious savages, when in fact they were merely trying to live their lives as they always had. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys anything with the old west, native americans, or just plain looking for some good entertainment!

We continue the story as Chasms, Luke's son who has been raised as the Indian chief's son is now 14 years old and is given more responsibility and suggests a move for the tribe. Luke finds out that Breann is not dead, but has returned east believing he is dead. An army General kills Indian women and children and gets caught in the act, and Luke quits the army to start his own horse ranch. I can't wait for volume three, Before Sunset. A fabulous read !!!
