Jack Barnstone is an outside-the-box, motorcycle-riding physician who, finding himself in two kinds of trouble, leaves Texas to start a solo practice near Chinatown in San Francisco. When a patient walks in his office with an undiagnosed mortal illness Barnstone's life changes forever. Finding himself in deeper trouble than ever he must work his way through a malpractice suit, the mistrust of his colleagues and the suspicions of the San Francisco police in order to vindicate himself. Since he has arrived in San Francisco just at the start of the Summer of Love to pursue his quest he has to learn the inner workings of Hippie culture, the sinister workings of the Satanic Church while he is dodging the unpredictable actions of the San Francisco Police. With help from his new Hippie girlfriend and an old flagrantly gay East Indian assistant coroner he discovers why the case was so difficult to solve, confronts the perpetrator and stumbles upon a well-hidden and sinister web of criminal activity.

The Lucifer Connection, by David Watts

About the Author David Watts has published 7 books of poetry, three anthologies, and several essays on the subject of poetry and healing. He has also written as the alter ego harvey ellis, in a more deep consciousness voice that uses a quirky imagistic style. Two books of poetry has been published in this voice. He is a physician, a classically trained musician and a sometimes radio and television host and producer. This book arose "accidentally" as a result of a lifetime of collecting "killer poems" poems that knock your socks off. These are together at last in POEMS FOR THE TIME CAPSULE.

Diaz Dr. Jack Barnstone is an entertaining, unpretentious doctor working in San Francisco during the late 60s at the height of the Hippie era. The Lucifer Connection's main character Dr. Barnstone has the misfortune of treating an unknown patient with a seemingly unthreatening ailment, causing his life to become a dangerous, unpredictable rollercoaster ride into the dark side and/or underbelly of the City by the Bay.You will be introduced to his close friend, charming physician Raj, his superstitious New Orleans born Nurse Jackie and uninhibited love interest Ellie. The Lucifer Connection's main character Dr. Barnstone reminds you of author Lee Child's fictional character Jack Reacher, (former military investigator who takes odd jobs investigating risky, and dangerous situations), except instead of being ex-military, Dr. Barnstone is a motorcycle riding, experienced doctor with a keen taste for good rye bourbon and a refined palette for good food. This book will leave you wanting to visit San Francisco, eat good Chinese food and experience the further adventures of Dr. Barnstone and his peculiar friends and foes. Can't wait for the sequel!!!

Murder, mystery and suspense set in the era of 1960's San Francisco, By Deborah Todd I fell in love with these characters, and with the beautifully chiseled body of this story of mystery and suspense sculpted with pure authenticity. David Watts brings the 1960s, San Francisco, and the Summer of Love to life as the backdrop for this engaging story that is so expertly crafted it pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. Watts' brilliant writing draws you into an era, and puts you front and center in the life of the charming bohemian doctor, Jack Barnstone, as his medical practice becomes entwined with murder and he soon has to save more than his practice, and even more than his life. Watts' characters are each so uniquely individual and so perfectly woven into the story that they effortlessly pick you up and carry you along, taking you deeper into their culture and their own lives as they work with, or against, Barnstone. Watts gives you everything you could want in a great book - a compelling story full of interesting people set in a time and place that comes to life so fully that you feel like you are there. A page-turner. Engrossing. Engaging. Curl up with this book at bedtime, at the beach, on the train, on a lazy afternoon, on a sunny day or a stormy day, at the coffee shop or at lunch. Read it for your bookclub. Give it as a gift. Anyway you read it, this is a good way to spend time with a great story whose characters will have you wanting more. (I would love to see this become a series!) Beautifully crafted and expertly written, this book is a great read! I highly recommend it!

By Irvin Ungar This thriller really moves...I was hooked from chapter 2... and picks up speed from there. Though I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years, it wasn't until I read this book that I felt like I had a real feel for the 1960s culture here... David Watts is a wonderful and engaging storyteller...highly recommend!
