About the Author Dos Santos es la primera novela de Fernando de Aragón. Desde hace mucho tiempo ha tenido gran interes en la dinámica del encuentro de españoles y taínos en las tierras hoy ocupadas por Haití, la República Dominicana y Puerto Rico. El autor estudió Ciencias Ambientales y Planificación en la Universidad de Rutgers y obtuvo un doctorado en Política y Administración de Recursos Energéticos de la Universidad de Pennsylvania. De Aragón, nacido y criado en Puerto Rico, vive actualmente en Ithaca, Nueva York donde trabaja como director de una agencia de planificación de transporte.

By Lillian Castaneda Romantic and realistic at the same time, this historical novel succeeds in recreating the early days of the Spanish conquest in the Greater Antilles. What impressed me more than the recreation of a time and place was the author's skillful character portrayal. Antonio Dos Santos, his lover, Aimá, and the kind Tainos of Ceiba who accepted him as one of them, came to life in this book. In contrast, his "civilized" countrymen were depicted as uncouth, greedy, cruel savages who brought about the demise of Taino culture and the disappearance of a people from the face of Borikėn. To learn how all this took place, including the clashes between both cultures, you must read Dos Santos, written originally in English and later translated into Spanish. I read the Spanish version, written in simple, straightforward language.
