About the Author RP is the eldest son of the eldest son and being born in 1905, his grandfather liked to boast he was the first person in his family to be born in his home province in Canada. At a young age, RP's father moved the family to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains from the Great Plains growing up in Calgary Alberta. Coming from a deeply religious family, RP attended Catholic schools, where he was exposed to many kids who had come from most of the countries in Europe after the second world war. In high school, RP played on a highly rated football squad. In his senior year, being the fastest kid on the team, he was asked to play as a receiver, but declined. He liked being the hitter, not the hittee. Besides, other things became more important. Fast cars and Marg. RP says he was not even cool enough to be on the Geek Squad in school, but that it never bothered him. During the time of penny loafers, tight jeans and alpaca sweaters, RP came to school in T shirts, boot cut jeans and cowboy boots. Visits with family 'Back Home' in Saskatchewan were special times. RP's maternal grandfather bred and sold Morgan horses and RP was riding almost before he could walk. His mother tells him he was bucked off his first horse when he was two. He spent a lot of time listening to the elders talking about the old days, on really special occasions, hearing from even older family talking about life in the 'Old Country'. Which it turns out was a part of Russia that we now call Ukraine. Many of these conversations were held in German. If you ask RP just the right way, he will admit he can speak three languages. English, French and German. None of them well. He is currently valiantly trying to teach himself Russian. Like the characters in his book, RP knew girls existed, but football, cars and hanging out at the pool hall with his buddies was more important. That all changed at a Sadie Hawkins dance when a cute little blond bombshell asked him to dance and his life changed forever. RP and Marg were married in August of 1973. She was 18 and he turned 19 two weeks later. At the age of 21, he became a father for the first time and eighteen months later another boy arrived. RP lives on a small acreage just east of Didsbury Alberta Canada. These days instead of sleeping under the stars rolled up in a tarp with his trusty steed Barney beside him, he can be found touring the country in the 'Buss'.

This isn't an easy genre to write as it takes a great deal of research to get facts straight, stick to proper timelines, and put the right people in the right places. Add to this the ability to create an enticing fictional tale in the midst of a historically accurate setting, and it's a challenge. There are a handful of writers that can do this effectively and I have to say that I really enjoyed author RP Wolbaum's contribution to the mix with "Bears and Eagles".A story set in late 19th century Europe and one that gives a wonderful inside look at the Cossacks, among other things. "Bears and Eagles" is the story of Andreas, who has long dreamt of being a Cossack and is at last invited to join the regiment. As the regiment becomes involved in conflicts, Andreas' leadership skills are tested and the most interesting aspects of the story were how the conflicts amongst the allies were handled. It seemed that there were just as many intense skirmishes within the allied camp as on the battlefield. There is an awesome amount of intrigue in this story as the stakes are raised at various crossroads and loyalties are tested. Andreas also meets his love, Elizabeth, on the course of this journey. This was a very well-written and fascinating story that gave me a look into another time. The characters were all well developed and I'd be very interested in reading future works from this author.

Country against country and the battles are raw, graphic and accurately portrayed. Andreas is a strong and fearless character that compels the reader to keep turning pages. His courage and loyalty seem endless and his intelligence keeps many alive. Facing one conflict after the next, he never waivers, leading his troops to victory. The other characters are rich in personality and make the story intense. Family values are mainstay and trust becomes a test of judgments. The twists and turns bring mystery and the unexpected events left me breathless. I love books that keep you guessing and this one certainly did. And the romance included simply made it a complete and utterly delight to red. The attention to detailing is awe inspiring and so clear. I could hear the shots, feel the adrenalin, smell the carnage and taste the dirt. It is one of the most descriptive books I have read. It is a fairly long book, but it is gripping and before you know it, you have reached the end. Extremely well written and easy to read and stay with. It has an impeccable flow and was a wonderful and engaging read. The imagination of the author is one of the best I encountered and I can not wait to see more. The passion for writing is amazing and made this one of the best additions to my library. I recommend it to all, it is outstanding

A very awesome book cover By Tony Parsons The Cossacks: Captain Vacilly Ivanovitch (Beresan Free Riders, 3rd Imperial Army), Sergeant Andreas Bekenbaum (25), Andy, Johann Bekenbaum (brother), Kurt, & Karl, were wreaking havoc on the Turkish soldiers. There were also the Russian prisoners to deal with.Major Halinov wanted to meet with Sergeant Peter Chimalovich (USMC).Effective immediately a huge promotion Major Andreas Bekenbaum (Earl of Katherintal) & temporarily assigned to the Royal Horse Guards.1st meeting with Marshal Molotov.2nd meeting was with General Andropov about his obligation to the military, politics, religion, & his honor to Crown Prince Nicolas, & country.Major Olynick (US Army 1st Cavalry), Major Rostov (US Army 1st Cavalry), Major Asmanov of the (USMC), & Mr. Remington (New York Times) had come to watch Major Andreas Hanrayovitch Bekenbaum, Ataman Andreashost, Earl of Katherintal District) Cossacks train, drill & perform.Major Rudy von Hoaedle (King’s German Legion, Cavalry Regiment) was also observing.Baroness Elizabeth Liz Halenczuk (Gräfin) & Colonel Ataman Andreas Andy Bekenbaum (son of Heinrich & of Michael, & clan of Bekenbaum, Graf) later wed.Training began, out of 3,000, 1,500 were left. The Afghanistan & Iraq war had begun/ended with 1,000 of casualties, wounded & injured.Remington (artist) had lots of drawings as did the newspapers of the military force of both the Bears & Eagles. The awards ceremony commenced.Everyone commissioned or noncommissioned in the Bears or Eagles units received some sort of distinguish accommodation medal. What is the future of all the prominent families?I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Russian family generational true-false historical War movie book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were a few grammar/typo errors (rank), but no repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another fantastic Russian War movie, or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.Thank you for the free Goodreads; Author; PDF bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
