Dr. Philip Sawyer takes on the responsibility of her state mandated out-patient psychotherapy which is contingent upon her release. He is convinced she was wrongly diagnosed as schizophrenic, but suspects she is hiding a delusional disorder for fear of re-institutionalization. In the other realm, Elizabeth lives as the daughter of an English nobleman in the mid-sixteenth century. She is convinced a magic spell split her soul during birth which allows her to inhabit two bodies during two different time periods. She hopes to find a spell to unite her soul into one body.

It came up during a science fiction search, but I think this was more drama and suspense than sci-fi. Regardless of which genre you would call it, the story is very entertaining. I was hooked from the beginning, with the idea of a woman living two lives in two different time periods. Essentially, when she goes to sleep in one life, she wakes up in the next. In her modern life, she is diagnosed with schizophrenia, so readers will have to decide if she is really experiencing a time shift of sorts or if she is just mentally ill.Towards the end, the main character has a revelation in her medieval life, which, I thought, is a fantastic twist. That same revelation, when brought to light during a therapy session, twists yet again. I was kept guessing right up to the last page, and I'm still not sure what to think about the woman's predicament. However, I am certain readers will appreciate the creativity of the author.

I was very intrigued with the premise and gave it a try. All I can say is that it's way too short.Much more time could have been spent on character development and Elizabeth's and Liz's earlier lives.I would like to have seen more of Elizabeth's medieval experiences and how she hid her modern life from her family but finally admitted it to her friends.I still love the premise though, and gave it the multiple stars.
