I was given a copy of this book in return for a honest review. This book is 100% on with what I find to be a real struggle in this industry. Photography is Flooded with people whom own a camera and pretend to be a "PRO". It gives great comparisons of a real photographer and a person with a digital camera pretending to be in the know, someone whom likes photography, shoots on Auto and hopes for the best. The knowledge is spot on. It give 2 scenarios, one as what you would experience from a "Friend with camera" shooting your wedding, and a "Professional". Both Scenarios give great detail as what would set each apart, what you could expect on your day from each. It also goes into great detail as what it takes to shoot a wedding professionally and why cost is what it is.For me as a Professional, I would be buying the book and Loaning it to my potential new Brides or flat out buying each potential new client a book hoping they would read it and take everything into consideration. The only problem I have with the book is that it references Professionals to those whom charge $4500 for a wedding and shoot 20 weddings a year. I cringe at the thought of giving a potential bride a book and her in return asking how many weddings I shoot a year and why my cost not near of that. In my Area What I charge is on the more expensive end, but not near $4500. I also limit myself to 15 weddings a year as I am a small business and I also shoot portraiture as well as Fashion. I can not keep up with editing more than 15 a year, no more than 2 weddings a month. With that being said, would I be giving a client a book that in that one area degrades my business? My ONLY complaint would be that possibly for the information given not to be so exact as far as numbers. I hope that makes sense. This book gives a perfect explanation of why to hire a professional and why paying more is worth every penny. It also explains why hiring a Pro cost more. With that being said, I will be buying this book. I am just not certain how I am going to go about using it just yet. :)

Handley When a young woman get's engaged the first thing she does is get the latest bridal magazines and starts shopping for the dress. However I would suggest that she also purchase this book and read through it. As it will maybe save a lot of heart break later when the wedding is all over. When a person starts planning a wedding for most they have a budget. The expense starts to ad up quickly. The Church, Reception Hall, Catering, Dress, Flowers, DJ, Video and photography. By the time you get to thinking about a photographer the budget has been most likely spent. And you start looking for Cheap. Now think about this for a moment, after the Wedding is over, the flowers are wilited, the cake is in crumbs, the dress is soiled/toren, the one thing you have to remember this beautiful day besides the marriage, is your wedding photographs. Now just because a person calls him or her a wedding photographer and owens a Nikon or Canon or another brand name, does not mean that you are going to get fantastic beautiful wedding photographs. I have lost many weddings over the years to cheaper photographers. Only to have the bride come to me in tears asking if I could fix the photographs she received, or in some cases reshoot what i could. I have had entire wedding groups get redressed a month after the wedding for photographs because the ones she received were, out of focus, poor exposure, bad posing, or can you believe this one....there was not one formal photo of the Bride and Groom together...Hello if I never took any photos at all this is one I would not have missed. There are so many horror stories I could tell, but this space does not allow. Michael Gowin has done an excellent job of explaning what to look for in choosing your photographer, Questions to ask when talking to photographers, making sure they have duplicate equipment in case of failure, that they check their equipment. Will the person you are hiring be the one shooting your wedding. Contracts, Payments, What you will be getting for your money. Make sure it is all put in writing and you get a signed copy. Remember your contract is the frame work of what you will be paying for and receiving, if it is not on that paper, it makes no difference what was said or promised. This little guide is 88 pages of photos, Ideas, and very helpful information. I read the whole thing is an hour. Believe me it is well worth reading and the price is less then a Bridal Dress Magazine. If you read it you will be glad you did. Remember you only get one chance at the moment, once it's passed you can restage it, but it is never the same. Make sure you get it right the first time.

A Prerequisite for Every Bride & Groom By Charles Burgess There is so much riding on all the individual aspects of a wedding, each with tons of stress. In the area of wedding photography the stress can become overwhelming because unlike many things, only the photographs will preserve the memory of such a momentous day for decades to come, and potentially for several generations. There is a lot riding on this single aspect of the wedding. Although there are a lot of critical details, such as dress selection, composing and memorizing the vows, etc., it is the wedding photos in later years when often it is the photos of the wedding that can reignite the spark that helps them through difficult times.I really like the way the author takes a bride by the hand and leads her through the photographic process in a way that will relieve her (and those who are planning the wedding with her) of an enormous amount of stress. Hopefully she will only marry once, and that means she has no prior experience in what is a single event in her life. Reading this book is like a relaxed rehearsal of the entire process of finding a wedding photographer, the book, and all the details to the final result of the wedding album and prints that will be cherished for many years.I recommend that every couple who are engaged to marry to read this book. As a photographer, I plan on giving this book with every booking to help my clients in planning their wedding photography.
