This is the tale of Shannon Wilde, homesteading in the Idaho Territory of 1866. She is one of three sisters, all of whom were bullied by their father into disguising themselves as men, and serving in the Civil War.The action in this story starts right on the first page. Shannon, out for a hike in the woods, comes face to face with Mountain Man, Matthew Tucker--and a mad grizzly bear right behind him. Since they are on the edge of a cliff, Shannon sees their only chance for survival is jumping into the river below. Unknown to Shannon, that is the Slaughter River, so named because no one has ever gone in it and survived.Have you ever questioned your faith?Although this book contains Ms. Connealy's trade mark humor, it also has some very somber sections that deal with the post traumatic stress that Shannon suffers from the war. She worked as a medic on the front lines of combat and witnessed, as well as, took part in, many grizzly medical procedures. The horrors of that experience, have caused Shannon to have a crisis of faith, and question God.Will she hang in there...and survive? In addition to facing those demons, Shannon is also facing another type of evil that wants to force her off her land, and destroy her beloved sheep. Shannon, Matthew and the rest of her family face many dangers while trying to figure out who is behind all of it. Some of those scenes were so intense that it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Ms. Connealy packs a lot of action between the pages of this book. She has well-developed characters living out an adventurous story with lots of twists and turns.I have read other works by this author, and was thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review this one. I recommend this 5-star book to anyone who enjoys a well-written book with action, romance, and a dash of humor, written from a Christian viewpoint. The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Bethany House Publishing for the purpose of review. I have not been compensated in any other manner. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal.

By MeezCarrie After now reading all three of the Wild at Heart books, I can unequivocally say that Now & Forever is my favorite of the trilogy. This second book is Mary Connealy at her best! Madcap adventure, hilarious dialogue, toe-curling kisses, and characters that you wish you could invite to dinner. Well... I'm unsure about that last one. Shannon's idea of a meal and mine are quite different, and while my tastes align much more closely with Tucker's he has that one bath a year rule so.... yeah. Maybe I should amend that thought to "characters that you wish you counted as friends". There. That sounds somewhat safer on both my beet-sensitive constitution and my sense of smell. One of the things I enjoy most about Mary Connealy's books is her writing style - the narrator is inside the characters' heads and informs us of their thoughts with wry amusement. Sometimes, she bypasses wry amusement and goes straight for out-and-out hilarity! Tucker's ponderings to himself about Shannon and his feelings thereof .... and his attachment to his pants (it would take me too long to explain here - you just to read the book) waver between those two categories and were responsible for many chuckles from yours truly as I read. Speaking of chuckles... watch for a scene where the mountain men are planning their strategy for how best to retell the tale of Tucker and Shannon's river adventure. Outside of the romantical scenes and the kisses that Tucker kept planting on Shannon, that particular scene was one of my very favorites in the book. Pure comedic gold. I could see it playing out so clearly, and I'm pretty sure Tim Conway was one of the mountain men in my mind.Bottom Line: In between all the laughter and the kissing (and ooo-la-la, are there some good ones!), Now & Forever brims with suspense and tenderness and warmth. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic comedies, westerns, or historical fiction. As I said, it's Mary Connealy at her best - and it has a little something for everyone!(I received a copy of this book in exchange for only my honest review.)

A romance involving a female Rocky Mountain Huckleberry By Harold Wolf Series book 2 has another Wilde gal in an outrageously adventurous suspense novel sure to please all ages and both genders of Western fans.Falling from a cliff into "Slaughter River", upriver to several death-producing rocky Mountain waterfalls, is not the ideal method of introduction. Yet she-shepherd Shannon and mountain man Matt say their "Howdy dos" just that way. With Mary Connealy telling the tale, I know it's only going to get worse--and funnier at the same time. I love this author's western historic humor. "Now and Forever" hooks, nay, spurs a reader into a compelling page-turner with that opening leap of faith. After all, it's the landing when the going truly gets tough, and the tough get rolling. This couple's adventure continues, more harrowing than Mark Twain's idyllic stories. But fear no nightmares; Mary Connealy follows each fright with ample humor, like Twain. And impromptu cliff diving is only the beginning. That and the next traumatic episode merely lead into the prime plot. And on top of all the fun, suspense, and adventure, there is the opportunity to meet and adore the grulla mustang mare named Grew.I'm truly sorry if you missed book one of the Wilde sisters who posed as men to fight in the Civil War. Yep, pardner, you don't want to miss book one:Tried and True (Wild at Heart) (Volume 1)
