Early one morning, she slips out of Grand Isle Plantation and finds an old boat. Carmen paddles to the fort in search of her lost summer love, intending to find him if it is the last thing she ever does, leaky old boat or not. The waves are rough and nearly wash right over the sides of the wooden boat. Carmen fears she might have been too brave, but she doesn't turn back. She has to find Ben.

By Shirley Blanchard Historical fiction is one of my favorits and Barbara Robinson has done her research and wrote a great book, The Civil War will come a live to you, you will rejoice over the slaves getting thier freedom. you will smile over a young ladys tactics to find a wed her soldier. i gave this short story a 5 star very deserving and im looking forward to reading more from Barbara Robinson also known as B.J. Robinson

It's a great, quick read about young love, persistence and determination. Sometimes, life's obstacles are opportunities to show our true mettle and that is Carmen's perspective all the way. Enjoy this short story with my recommendation-it's a keeper!

I love the setting, the plantation, Sweet Magnolia, and its history. This is an intriguing love story, where love is stronger than the fears of others. This author truly captures the moment.
