Excerpt from A Series of Lessons in Gnani Yoga: The Yoga of WisdomThe lessons which compose this volume, originally appeared in the shape of monthly lessons, the first of which was issued in October, 1906, and the twelfth in September, 1907. These lessons met with a hearty and generous response from the public, and the present volume is issued in response to the demand for the lessons in a permanent and durable form. There have been no changes made in the text. The publishers take the liberty to call the attention of the reader to the great amount of information condensed within the space given to each lesson. Students have told us that they have found it necessary to read and study each lesson carefully, in order to absorb the varied information contained within its pages. They have also stated that they have found it advisable to re-read the lessons several times, allowing an interval between each reading, and that at each re-reading they would discover information that had escaped them during the course of the previous study. This has been repeated to us so often that we feel justified in mentioning it, that other readers might avail themselves of the same course and plan of study.Following his usual custom, the writer of the lessons has declined to write a preface for this book, claiming that the lessons speak for themselves, and that those for whom they are intended will receive the message contained within them, without any prefatory talk.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. About the Author Born in Maryland in 1862, he began working life at 15 in his parent’s grocery store. He married at age 27, and became a successful attorney in Pennsylvania. However, stress and over-strain brought him to a physical and mental breakdown that ended in a financial disaster. He looked for healing and in the late 1880’s he found the principles of New Thought, and in applying them he restored his health, mental vigor and material prosperity. He began writing articles on the truths he had discovered. His “A Mental Science Catechism,” appeared in Charles Fillmore's ‘Modern Thought’ in 1889. By the early 1890’s he moved to Chicago, then a major center for New Thought, and became an active promoter of the movement as an editor and author. He wrote his first book, Thought-Force in Business and Everyday Life, in 1900, a series of lessons in personal magnetism, psychic influence, thought-force, concentration, will-power, and practical mental science. Soon after he met Sydney Flower, a well-known New Thought publisher, and in December 1901 he became editor of Flower's New Thought magazine (until 1905). He wrote dozens of articles in the magazine; and later on, he was a regular contributor to Elizabeth Towne’s Magazine, Nautilus. Throughout his subsequent career, Atkinson wrote and published over 100 different books, some under his own name and many under pseudonyms such as Yogi Ramacharaka, Theron Q. Dumont, Theodore Sheldon, Magus Incognito, Edward Walker, Three Initiates and Swami Bhakta Vishita. Among the first to develop the concept of Law of Attraction, Atkinson is considered, together with Orison Swett Marden and Wallace Wattles, the masters of self-development and positive thinking, and the real promoters of New Thought, a movement that came very much to life again with the Millennium He died November 22, 1932 in Los Angeles, California , after 50 years of successful career in law, business, writing, occultism, and a life surrounded by mysteries, including his own death.

Lessons on Gnani Yoga By Andrew Harrell This paperback contains 12 lessons (266 pages) on Gnani ( a Sanskrit word meaning knowledge, cognizance, wisdom also transliterated as jnana or gyana)yoga. It was first published in 1906 in Great Britain. The title page describes the work as giving the "highest yogi teachings regarding the absolute and its manifestations". By this it means the principles by which the spiritual creation, evolution, and involution of the world and us happens mentally. After reading it I would not disagree with this claim. In the text there are a lot of rational arguments for monism as a theology and philosophy. There is an explanation of the philosophical basis for the Eastern religious doctrine of karma. This is good and helpful supplimentary material for those studying the fourth chapter of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. There is a clear discussion of some of the ways spiritual creation occurs inside of all of us and each of us (the many to the one and the one to the many). I believe I have benefited by my reading and study of this book and I plan to refer back to its clear presentation of this difficult subject matter in the future. I think there is a good possibiity that if more people understood the teachings in these lessons we would all be happier.

By Godspark This is a well written book explaining the concepts behind Gnani Yoga - some you will recognize as very similar to other Yogi paths - others to be succinctly unique to Gnani. All of it very educational to the inquiring mind.
