Live along with the characters in the Bible brought to life! This tale treads the perilous paths that teenager John followed when he hooked up with Jesus almost 2,000 years ago.     It's the story of "the disciple Jesus loved" (John 13:23). He's also known as John the Apostle, son of Zebedee; John the Evangelist, writer of the Gospel and three Letters of John; John of Patmos, who wrote the book of Revelation; and John the Elder, revered leader of the Church of Ephesus in the closing years of the first century AD.      Episode One happens in the year when young John meets Jesus. Episode Two will be released in autumn, AD 2015.     This is historical fiction. It's historical, for it strives to be true to all that is known about the characters, their locations, and their actions from the Bible, from archaeology, and from other historians. It's fiction, for it fills in this record with a tale crafted by an informed estimate of what may have actually happened.     Endnotes refer to Bible verses which contain the nonfiction, the stuff that really did happen. Dive into the story, remembering that it's only part nonfiction, and the rest is in the realm of possibility.

From the Back Cover First Century Boat     The cover image shows an ancient fishing boat from the first century that may have been used by John the Apostle. It was discovered in 1986 on the north-west shore of the Sea of Galilee near ancient Capernaum.      The remains of the boat are 27 feet long and over 7 feet wide. Built mainly of cedar planks, the boat had a shallow draft with a flat bottom, allowing it to get close to shore for fishing. Four rowing positions allowed the boat to be propelled using a five-man crew. With its mast and tiller, wind power could be used to sail the boat. Separately, a tile mosaic from the first century was discovered that depicts what these boats looked like.      The wood for the boat was harvested between 120 BC and AD 40, based on radio-carbon dating. Nails and pottery including a cooking pot and lamp were found in the vicinity of the boat, and the hull was constructed with "mortise and tenon" technology, all of which set a final date for the boat between 50 BC and AD 50.      This ancient Sea of Galilee boat is an example of the type of craft used in the first century for both fishing and transportation across the lake. Jesus' earliest disciples were professional fishermen who used boats like this. These boats were important to Jesus' ministry, and are mentioned 40 times in the Gospels. There is no evidence connecting this particular boat to Jesus or his disciples.      You can view this first century boat for yourself: It is on display near the Sea of Galilee in the Yigal Allon museum in Ginosar, Israel.

Butler, MS, Ed., RNC This book begins the adventure of John the Apostle as he turns fourteen, is baptized by John the Baptist, and meets Jesus.John and his friends are typical teenagers who get in trouble, make amends, explore, meet exciting people, and see miracles.John was thrilled when Jesus chose him to be lowest rank, which meant he would be always at his teacher's side, see what others wouldn't see, and learn that "the last will become first."Teens will love the characters' friendships, contemporary language, and escapades.Teens will share John's curiosity about the scrolls, how old writings predict current events, and how one person can be both Son of Man and the Son of God.This historical fiction tale brings to life the faith and fervor of John and his peers through John's first-hand account of Jesus turning water into wine, healing the sick, casting out demons, cleansing the lepers, and other marvels. The reader is drawn in by the realistic dialogue and exciting anecdotes about meeting the Teacher. By candace steller Set during the political turmoil of the time, John is an insightful look into the lives of Jesus, and the young men who chose to follow him, bringing a freshness to the humanity of Jesus, his disciples and their families. Meet John, who is assured by Jesus that though he is the least of the disciples, the tradeoff would be a personal relationship with him that paralleled none other. Written in a casual style and vivid imagery, you will smell the sea of Galilea, see the fishing nets, hear the voice of John the Baptist calling to believers, understand the parables Jesus teaches in their day to day context. For anyone, whether a new Christian, young Christian or seasoned Christian, who has wanted a birds eye view into the life of Jesus during his coming of age, the age of miracles, and the young men who would follow him, John is a must read.
