At Spinster House, a woman can enjoy the spoils of single life—or find the love of a lifetime…   It has been twenty years since Lord William Wattles laid eyes on Annabelle Frost. Still, he remembers everything—her ethereal beauty, her bookish intelligence, her surprisingly modern attitudes about love...and lust. But Belle’s allegedly wanton behavior led her father to send her away to save the family’s reputation. Now she resides at Spinster House in the village of Loves Bridge, where an unmarried lady can live—and in Belle’s case, support herself as a librarian—in peace...   Beautiful, passionate Belle—sworn off marriage? William can’t believe the woman he once knew could end up like this. But when the hands of fate bring him to Loves Bridge, his long-lost love might just end up back in his arms. Is their unwavering desire worth the sweeping scandal that is sure to follow them both? Absolutely.

After showing up in the heroine's bedroom one morning, she took it upon herself to act as the heroine's conscience when the absence of heroine's own would have gotten her into trouble. Which isn't to say the heroine managed to avoid all trouble in the long run, but at least the cat prevented the biggest folly. The description of the book gives adequate warning about the heroine's attitude toward love and lust. Her view is so progressive that she is ahead of her times by at least a century. She experienced none of the guilt I would have expected from the daughter of a village parson. Moreover, she does not blame the hero for buttoning up his breeches, walking out of her life, and not sparing her a thought for twenty years. If not for the cat, glaring and hissing until the heroine recovered her wits, she would have picked up the affair where they had left off without considering her reputation or her pride.Until the end of the book, the hero does not begin to act as a gentleman ought. At eighteen, he despoiled an innocent gently-bred maiden who was ostensibly his childhood friend - as much as a daughter of a vicar could be friends with the son of a duke - and left her to deal with the aftermath on her own. In the present day, he is quick to rationalize his desire to start their affair anew without a thought to possible consequences. Again?! I could understand the heroine - her experience was limited to one man - but surely the hero knew better? And just as I thought things could not possibly get any worse, the plot went off the rails. While I could accept the convenient death of his wife, critical to the happy ending of the couple, the far-fetched demise of both his brothers in a curricle accident felt redundant and unnecessary. The complications that arose from this twist fizzled out along with the rest of the conflict.Ordinarily, I would be the last person to crave angst in a historical romance. But, without it, the plot lost emotional depth. Constrained by the page count of the novella format, the story suffered from too much exposition and too little action, except the kind that happens in the bedroom. Unfortunately, the characters weren't appealing enough to make up for the omission.

Burns Did not care for the story, which is sad, because I really enjoyed this author's work in the past. I don't care for adultery story lines, and this one bothered me from the beginning. Also not a fan of poor-poor, pitiful me, and this story was full of it. Hopefully, the next installment will redeem the series.

THE TWO ARE NOT WHO THEY SEEM TO BE - BUT THEY FIND ONE ANOTHER ANYWAY By Texanne Miss Franklin is actually Ms Frost and has been hiding for 20 years. Mr Wattle becomes the Duke of Benton and has never actually been a music teacher. This is a quick read which is the introduction to the Spinster House series.Belle came to Love's Bridge a fallen woman. She became Ms Franklin, moved into the Spinster House (a haven for single women) and lived her life as though she did not need another human being in her life.Mr Wattle comes to Love's Bridge to hide from gossip in London. He finds his first love, Belle, acting as the town librarian and living in the the Spinster House. He is immediately reminded of the love they shared when they were each 19 years old. This story is a description of the two of them trying to move forward with their lives and being unable to ignore their memories and feelings. Both Belle and William are kind people who have lived lives which did not bring them happiness. Now they have an opportunity to recover what they lost years ago.The plot is very simple. The major part of the story is a sensual description of the times the two of them spend together.Sally MacKenzie is a talented author. As an introduction to the series, this is a little short on the explanation of what is behind the Spinster House. But, it is an entertaining introduction to some of the characters who populate the next book in the series. If you enjoy a romance with some humor thrown in, this is a book you will enjoy. Be prepared for explicit descriptions of intimate encounters.

Upon his return from World War II, Seaman Yazzie Goldman realizes that not much has changed at his family's trading post in Monument Valley―and yet everything is different. His grandfather, Moses Goldman, has suffered a debilitating stroke, and while Yazzie's mother Nizhoni is doing her best, the post is slowly falling apart.

Nizhoni is thrilled that Yazzie has returned to help bring the trading post back to prosperity. Excitement comes from the nearby filming of a John Ford movie starring Henry Fonda. Director Ford enlists the tall, strong, half-Navajo and half-Jewish Yazzie to serve as a translator, and as a bodyguard for the beautiful actress Linda Darnell. Someone is sending Linda threatening letters, and as Yazzie investigates, he finds himself falling for her.

Yazzie isn't the only one to have recently returned home. A man who calls himself Zopilote, the Buzzard, has spent the last twenty-five years in jail steeping himself in the ancient Navajo chant "Darkness Rolling" and consumed with rage at the people who put him there―Yazzie's mother and grandfather.

A thrilling, heart-pounding read of family, adventure, romance, and vengeance, The Darkness Rolling is the first in an evocative historical mystery series by award-winning authors Win and Meredith Blevins. It was a finalist for the Spur Award for Best Western Contemporary Novel.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful Navajo Mystery By Benjamin Boulden 1946. The war is over, and Yazzie Goldman—a Navajo with both a Jewish name and Jewish blood—is going home. He spent six years in the Navy, and the entire war in San Diego as Shore Patrol. His home is a trading post in Oljato near Monument Valley on the Utah-Arizona border. A place immortalized by John Ford’s film Stagecoach before the war, and now that the war is over, Mr. Ford, or as Yazzie calls him, Mr. John, is back with crew and cast to film My Darling Clementine.Yazzie, who worked for Mr. John as a Navajo translator on Stagecoach, is hired to escort a troubled star—“‘Big star, bigger ego. Linda Darnell.’”—from Winslow, Arizona to Monument Valley. She has a habit of showing favor to men and then dropping them cold; and a few take it personally. Yazzie and Ms. Darnell hit it off, and the escort job turns into Ms. Darnell’s onsite fulltime security. It’s a perfect job until Linda Darnell is attacked in her cabin, and Yazzie is blamed. The attack is more personal than Yazzie realizes; much more than simply that of suspect.THE DARKNESS ROLLING is a nicely executed period piece with sterling setting, plausible cast, and sharply developed mystery. Its setting, Monument Valley, is described with the tender and light touch of a knowing hand. It is the backdrop of John Wayne’s, and John Ford’s, greatest picture, The Searchers, and is no less integral to this story. Its painted rock shimmers in the narrative, and it is as much the story as the characters and plot. The cast is rich with the real; John Ford, Linda Darnell, are major characters believably developed in the story, and the descriptions of the film crew feel authentic. It is often difficult to determine reality from fiction. The narrative alternates between first and third person. Yazzie is the center, and his perspective is first person. The antagonist is revealed in brief snippets of third person. It is similar to the development of the antagonist in a serial killer novel, but its brevity shrewdly creates an unease that is buttressed by a creeping dark Navajo tale; a story that intermingles a sense of horror with the mystery. The novel is also a study of contradiction. Yazzie is part of two cultures—his grandfather is Jewish, and his mother is Navajo. His childhood home and the Navajo culture whisper to him, but his experience in the Navy and his cultural inheritance from his grandfather pull him away. It is similar to Monument Valley’s endless appeal to John Ford. The old, the timeless unchanging cathedral of the desert’s painted rocks, and the undeniable appeal of the new, almost celluloid, American dream with its changing perspectives and sensibilities.

The dynamic duo of Win and Meredith Blevins are the best portal into the mysteries and subtleties of the Navaho traditions and sensitivities. I love learning about a culture while being entertained. I held back one star for the next review in the series, hoping there is a little more explication of the scenes. I just want to dwell in each moment a while longer. Can't wait to read the second book in the series.

The cast of characters come to life and draw you into the life of Seaman Yazzie Goldman as he returns to his home near Monument Valley just after WWII. Just enough humor, mystery, romance and insight into the Navajo culture to keep you reading and forgetting about house or yard work all day. Get a copy for your summer vacation and enjoy!

El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (El Pozo de los Deseos nº 2) (Spanish Edition), by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra

From Publishers Weekly This imposing volume presents the first part of the quest by the beloved Don, whose name stands for chivalry and courage--"The Impossible Dream." The book's heavy stock, binding and design all impart an air of style and prestige, reinforced by Bogin's suave translation, which makes good use of abundant dialogue. (The phraseology and vocabulary, however--"erstwhile," "apothecary," "coherence"--will be beyond younger readers.) Though the paintings by Spanish artist Boix are masterfully executed, some lack the sweep expected from this panoramic work; much of the imagery is somewhat pallid, both in tone and emotional impact. And, though the architectural details, period apparel and scenery are all richly evocative, the characters themselves are often small in scale and dwarfed by their stunning surroundings. Nevertheless, the presence of an elegantly produced, picture book version of this classic merits attention and applause. All ages. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal Grade 5 Up-- Cervantes's Don Quixote, the moniker and persona adopted by the addled Senor Quijada , who has read a few too many chivalric romances, hardly needs introduction to adults. However, most young people will have hardly heard him mentioned, much less had any firsthand contact with this larger-than-life literary creation. Bogin has taken some of the more involving, outrageous, and well-known adventures of the knight errant and his squire, Sancho Panza, and put them together into a relatively brief narrative that nonetheless is strikingly true to the tone and style of the Spanish original. Her prose, lively and at times employing modern vernacular to good effect, does full justice to Cervantes's mad Knight of the Sad Countenance. It begs reading aloud, and may well start discussion and contemplation. Boix's illustrations are delicate, detailed, gold-washed watercolors that create a kind of fairy-tale ambience. They will grab readers' attention and imaginations and direct anyone picking the book up to delve into it and to find out what's going on. Taken as a whole, this is a lovely job of bookmaking, providing an examplary introduction to a classic work. --Ann Welton, Thomas Academy, Kent, Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Review “A more profound and powerful work than this is not to be met with…[It is] the final and greatest utterance of the human mind.” –Fyodor Dostoevsky“It can be said that all prose fiction is a variation on the theme of Don Quixote.” –Lionel Trilling“[Don Quixote is] the first and best of all novels, which nevertheless is more than a novel.” –Harold Bloom“When Don Quixote went out into the world, that world turned into a mystery before his eyes. That is the legacy of the first European novel to the entire subsequent history of the novel. The novelist teaches its reader to comprehend the world as a question.” –Milan Kundera

While it is a pretty book, color pictures, it is incomplete. It only has 28 of the 52 chapters for book 1, and 27 of the 74 chapters of book 2. Apparently this is a children's version, but Amazon has it listed with the standard version of the book. My biggest complaint is that Amazon has them all grouped together, so I thought I was getting a different version with a hard back cover. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because Amazon screwed up, not the publisher or seller. This book needs to be listed completely separately other version with a description that says it is an abridged version for children.

Professor Merrideth Randall has an insatiable curiosity about the past. But unlike other historians, she has the means to satisfy it—an amazing computer program that lets her rewind the lives of people from long ago. So when the topic of Ohio River pirates piques her interest, she packs up her laptop and goes to Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. There pirates preyed on the thousands of settlers coming down the river on flatboats, heading for new lives on the western frontier. For a time, that stretch of the river was a black hole, where whole families disappeared along with their hopes, dreams, and treasures. And the only way for Merrideth to find out what happened to them is to get inside the head of Samuel Mason, the master mind behind the attacks. Merrideth’s visit to Cave-in-Rock coincides with Hellhound Homecoming, a wild annual gathering of lawless bikers. A confrontation with five of them has her wondering if her curiosity will be the death of her. But God sends a tattooed biker named Trevor Dalton to her rescue. Trevor appeals to her in some way that’s difficult to explain, even though he’s night-and-day different from Brett Garrison, the McKendree College colleague who’s still hoping for more than just a friendship with her. Which one should she choose—the man who is safe or the man with a past?

How Sweet the Sound: an inspirational novel of history, mystery & romance (The Rewinding Time Series Book 3), by Deborah Heal

About the Author Deborah Heal is the author of the Time and Again history mystery trilogy and the Rewinding Time Series: inspirational novels of history, mystery & romance, which have been described as “Back to the Future meets virtual reality with a dash of Seventh Heaven thrown in.” She was born not far from the Old Slave House featured in her novel Every Hill and Mountain and grew up just down the road from the settings of Time and Again and Unclaimed Legacy. As a child she was intrigued by stories of the southern Illinois river pirates and wrote about them in How Sweet the Sound. Today she lives with her husband in Monroe County, Illinois, not far from where the early pioneers of her novel Once Again struggled to survive amidst Indian attacks. She has a special connection to her novel Only One Way Home. Unlike the characters in it who were forced to walk the Trail of Tears, her great, great grandmother’s Cherokee family remained safely in North Carolina. Deborah enjoys reading, gardening, and learning about regional history. She and her husband have three grown children and five grandchildren. She loves to interact with her readers, who may learn more about the history behind the books at her website www.deborahheal.com and her Facebook author page www.facebook.com/DeborahHeal.

It's fascinating and has me googling historical topics as I read. I'm a huge fan and look forward to the next book. I was painting an antique bookcase today, and I kept thinking if only I had that computer program, maybe I could see who kept their books in it in the 1800s! Yea, I'm hooked!

By Tikvah The biggest disappointment is having to wait for the next book which doesn't come out until December! I hope Merri will be ok without me-I'm not sure I will. I do wish proofers would catch the grammatical errors. I'm finding more and more in each book I read and it takes away from the experience. Enjoyed the book-anticipating the next!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Amazing Grace By joyer This next installment in Deborah Heal's series continues the emphasis on God's grace as the ultimate resolution to conflicts found in the human condition. This series has quickly become a favorite as it illustrates the timeless theme of sin and forgiveness, while raising the question by many of how God brings healing by faith in Him alone. Readers will definitely relate to Merrideth's struggle with self doubt and worthiness. She is such a realistic character who is searching and growing in her faith as Brett, Abby, and John help her through emotional circumstances that she finds difficult to overcome. Looking forward to the next installment to see how her faith grows as she continues to time surf through history!

The characters were brilliantly and hilariously portrayed and I found myself busting out laughing while reading the book. It's an extremely fun adventure and it's hard not to relate to the drama of life of as a Fifth grader. I have a bad habit of trying to read a number of books at the same time and finding it difficult to choose which one to focus on. This book removed that dilemma for me; I could not wait to pick it back up and see what the next nutty adventure lay ahead!

Calling all fans of THE WONDER YEARS By Victoria Griffith Reminiscent of the work of Jean Shepherd (who wrote the book that inspired the film THE CHRISTMAS STORY) as well as the tv series THE WONDER YEARS, Voorhees' latest title takes us back to our own school years. Voorhees is a very funny writer, and I laughed out loud as I read this tale that lets us see adults through the eyes of a kid. Think of it as a sophisticated WIMPY KID book for adults.

By Lynda Williams I've been waiting for this book for years, after seeing half of an early draft by fellow writer Rebecca Bradley. Her depiction of a hunter-gatherer culture savaged by plague due to contact with an early agricultural civilisation has a realism that does justice to her academic background plain. Her story-telling skills and grasp of character make you feel you are living it with the heroes. I always love a good culture conflict with worthwhile people in the middle of it trying to make human sense of inhuman tragedy.

It catches your attention early, and keeps you anxious about the good guys, right to the end. You like the main characters, even when they're a bit on the evil side! It does get a bit...gory at times, but even that fits in with the background setting. And, it sets up Book 2, which means I'll have to shell out again to find out how things turn out, but that's not a bad thing. I like series books too!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A great read By Johnny P I whistled through this book, testament to the writing and the pacing in Bradley's first in hopefully further installments. Bradley is a good writer. You can easily say that and have the sentence passed over as a mere generalised statement. But I mean it. She writes very well, characterising with aplomb, nailing the point of views of each person in the story and giving you something on every page.Bradley has a history in, well, history (of the ancient kind) with her background in archaeology. This shines through with her hypothesising of rituals, events, clothing, language, culture etc. This adds to what is a rich tapestry of storytelling, interspersed with some dry humour, which keeps you turning the pages breezily because those ideas and nuggets are interwoven seamlessly. There are some fascinating elements of early religious thought and criticism as the societies of the established culture comes into clash with the People, the wondering hunter gatherers which certainly piqued my interest. In sum, it is a darkly funny clash of ancient cultures and I hope Bradley continues to write further stories in what could be a great series.

A USA Today Bestseller

From the New York Times bestselling author of the acclaimed Immortal Guardians series comes an enchanting new series full of romance, danger, and loyalty: The Gifted OnesSince the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear, but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence. Perhaps because she garners the same fear in others that he does himself. For seven years, Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side, counseling him from the shadows, healing him with her hands, and staving off the worst of his loneliness while his fearsome reputation keeps others at bay. Blessed--or cursed--with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him beneath umbral robes that lead Dillon and his people to believe she is the same aged wisewoman who served his father. All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything--even the wrath of his king--to be with her.

From the Author Dear Reader, One of the questions I am asked most often is what inspired my Immortal Guardians series--paranormal romance novels and novellas that feature dark and dangerous heroes, kick-ass heroines, action, passion, and romance.  The easy answer is:  this book, A Sorceress of His Own.  There were, of course, other sources of inspiration--a documentary on the water bear, research into possible explanations for the emergence of vampire folklore, and a biography of King George, to name a few.  But long before Sarah Bingham rescued Roland Warbrook with her trusty shovel in Darkness Dawns, I wrote A Sorceress of His Own . . . and the gifted ones were born.Alyssa, the heroine of A Sorceress of His Own, was the first gifted one I created.  And she, along with Seth, Roland and Marcus--all of whom appear in this book--fired my imagination and inspired many of the what ifs that drove me to create my Immortal Guardians.  I am very pleased to bring you Alyssa's story. I hope you will enjoy it.  And, for those who have read my Immortal Guardians books, I hope you will enjoy seeing Marcus as a mortal teenaged squire. --Dianne Duvall

About the Author Dianne Duvall is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Immortal Guardians series and the Gifted Ones series. Her debut novel, Darkness Dawns, was nominated for the RT Reviewers' Choice Award for Best Vampire Romance by RT Book Reviews. Dianne holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of St. Thomas.Actress Kirsten Potter has performed on stage, film, and television, including roles on Medium, Bones, and Judging Amy. Her narrations have won AudioFile Earphones Awards, and she earned an Audie nomination for her reading of Rise Again by Ben Tripp.

89 of 92 people found the following review helpful. Thank You! By Leslie B. I'm going to start off by saying I don't write many book reviews, although I do read a lot. And I mean, A LOT. Reading is a great escape for me especially when real life can be messy and complicated enough, thank you very much. Lately I've been tired of the same "He has issues but she can fix him or she has issues but he loves her despite them" story lines. What I was really looking for was a story where two strong, intelligent characters worked well together, respected and genuinely cared about each other, and held on through whatever fate threw their way. This story was that and more. The hero is smart, strong, fiercely loyal and dangerous, while the heroine is intelligent, a good strategist, and kind to others regardless how she's treated. She is a great match for the hero. Another reviewer mentioned that it was pretty light on the "paranormal" and a little heavier on the "historical". That may be true, but in no way does it detract from the story. I'm a huge fan of paranormal romance myself (bring on the demons, witches, sorcerers, vampires, shifters, angels, etc.) but the story line was so good that I didn't feel like I was missing anything. There was some sexual content but it wasn't gratuitous and was appropriate to the story line. The chemistry and love between these two characters was well written. I had foregone sleep and was late to work just so I could find out how it ended. I was not disappointed and got my HEA. Also, I really appreciate there was no cliffhanger and the book was complete, not broken down into multiple parts to be purchased separately. I'm really looking forward to reading about the other "gifted ones" and where their adventures might lead them. So, thanks Dianne Duvall. This story was like a warm chocolate chip cookie after a crappy day. Exactly what I needed.

14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. New series to love! By Kari at From the TBR Pile It is always scary beginning a new series by a beloved author, because what if I hate it? Much to my great relief, this first book in her new Gifted Ones series, A Sorceress of His Own, did not disappoint. I think I loved Alyssa and Dillon's story as much as I loved Rowland and Sarah in Darkness Dawns. This series takes place in the late 1100s; years before her other series. Alyssa is just 16 when she dons her grandmothers robes and assumes the role as seer for Lord Dillon. Over the next 7 years, she keeps her identity hidden from him as her love for him grows. Even with him thinking she is a very old woman, a deep friendship and loyalty grows between the two. It is definitely a bonus for Dillon when he discovers that Alyssa is really young and beautiful. He quickly falls for her. The problem with this union is that Alyssa is not of royal blood, do the two can never marry. In that time, those things mattered. I was really rooting for these two to find a way to be together.I loved Dillon's character. Even before he knew who Alyssa really was, he tried to get the respect of his people for her. Even though she freely used her healing gifts to help others, they still scorned her and kept their distance thinking she was an evil old witch. Alyssa was an equally beloved character. I loved her attitude of " a gift not used is a gift wasted". The passion between the two was intense and lovely to watch. If you are a fan of the Immortal guardians series, you should be excited to know that some familiar faces show up in this book. I won't say who, i'll let you be surprised.IT is kind of cool to see favorite characters in their earlier beginnings. I haven't seen a hint of who is next up in this series, but I can't wait to find out!

A Sweeping Saga like story setting the groundwork for the wonders of the Gifted Ones By Shauni Originally Reviewed For: Tea and BookDianne Duvall takes us on an epic adventure through King Richard's England. Caught up with all the mysteries and superstitions telling a tale of secret passions that defy all, be they friend or foe, serf or king. A love story that rises from what could be to what is..When little more than a child, Alyssa donned her grandmother's robes and became the "wisewoman" for Lord Dillon. At 16 she was strong enough to hide a burgeoning love and step into shoes that should have been to great to fill. Ever looking for ways to keep Dillon safe, Allysa has closed herself off to all others. Allowing the suspicion and scorn to reign supreme. Always afraid of allowing others to see her true self. Until tragedy struck and Allysa's healing of Dillon all be destroyed them both.Lord Dillon, Earl of Wescott has known the wisewoman his entire life. She served his father and grandfather and he is more than a little confused as to why he is so drawn to her. His trust in her is without a doubt but the connection that grows daily between them? That's another story. For seven years she has been at his side, his anchor in so many ways. But an ambush leaving him near death teaches him just how loyal she has been to him and what he almost lost. This was more than a medieval romance this story had power.. The power to draw me in, to reveal the gifts given and to want to hold tight to the loyalties shown. While prejudice and superstition ran rampant in this book, they should have this was the 12th century after all, the power of love and loyalty managed to conquer even that. One thing I really appreciated was the fact that while Dianne made several of the priests corrupt and evil, lost to superstition and greed, she didn't make all priests out to be so. She carefully crafted what I would consider accurate portrayals of the clergy at that time, or anytime really, some good, some bad.. some men of their times and some able to look beyond the obvious. The one thing I was disappointed in was the fact that the Immortal Guardians, Seth and Roland were very minor characters. I wanted them to be huge players, to explain more of the what ifs? But I think Dianne has other plans and their importance may show as the series grows. But really that is such a minor thing and if that's all I didn't like? Well that means there were pages and pages and pages of things I loved!A Sweeping Saga like story setting the groundwork for the wonders of the Gifted Ones. Alyssa's brother and sister are sure to play a large part in future books as should Dillon's brother Robert.. Of course I don't really know how the mind of Dianne Duvall works but I am excited to see what will happen next. This story might be just another day in the mind of Dianne Duvall.. but it was a delight to me! Loved it!ShauniThis review is based on the ARC of A Sorceress of His Own, provided by the author for an honest review.

Bedazzling Author with Bewitching Tales--A Modern Masterpeice By KT Ashely Author Hzal Anubewei has a fresh and unique writing style that yields stories that are both brutal and beautiful—but always brilliant. In Scheme the writer manipulates your ponder, and directs your experience to raw emotion. Few modern writers are able to achieve this affect on their readers, for this is no commercial ruse. I found this book to be one of true joy and literary genius. Mr. Anubewei has bedazzled me as to become one of my favorite and most cherished authors with this one book. It is an incredible read to be savored again and again.

One Of Fudge's Best By cole riley Some of these extended works in this stellar collection are classic Fudge: Promise Kept, Opel, Clowns, The Red Coat, and Many Faces. They stretch out magnificently, blending themes, descriptions, plot in spontaneous rhythms like the jazz work of Bud Powell and Monk. Some stories remind you of early Baraka from his Grove Press period - sometimes funny, always hips, sweet and spiritual. The stories have the narrative magic of such wordsmiths such as Henry Dumas, John Steinbeck, Barry Hannah, George Saunders, and Toni Cade Bambara. This book is one of Mr. Fudge's best. . .

Live along with the characters in the Bible brought to life! This tale treads the perilous paths that teenager John followed when he hooked up with Jesus almost 2,000 years ago.     It's the story of "the disciple Jesus loved" (John 13:23). He's also known as John the Apostle, son of Zebedee; John the Evangelist, writer of the Gospel and three Letters of John; John of Patmos, who wrote the book of Revelation; and John the Elder, revered leader of the Church of Ephesus in the closing years of the first century AD.      Episode One happens in the year when young John meets Jesus. Episode Two will be released in autumn, AD 2015.     This is historical fiction. It's historical, for it strives to be true to all that is known about the characters, their locations, and their actions from the Bible, from archaeology, and from other historians. It's fiction, for it fills in this record with a tale crafted by an informed estimate of what may have actually happened.     Endnotes refer to Bible verses which contain the nonfiction, the stuff that really did happen. Dive into the story, remembering that it's only part nonfiction, and the rest is in the realm of possibility.

From the Back Cover First Century Boat     The cover image shows an ancient fishing boat from the first century that may have been used by John the Apostle. It was discovered in 1986 on the north-west shore of the Sea of Galilee near ancient Capernaum.      The remains of the boat are 27 feet long and over 7 feet wide. Built mainly of cedar planks, the boat had a shallow draft with a flat bottom, allowing it to get close to shore for fishing. Four rowing positions allowed the boat to be propelled using a five-man crew. With its mast and tiller, wind power could be used to sail the boat. Separately, a tile mosaic from the first century was discovered that depicts what these boats looked like.      The wood for the boat was harvested between 120 BC and AD 40, based on radio-carbon dating. Nails and pottery including a cooking pot and lamp were found in the vicinity of the boat, and the hull was constructed with "mortise and tenon" technology, all of which set a final date for the boat between 50 BC and AD 50.      This ancient Sea of Galilee boat is an example of the type of craft used in the first century for both fishing and transportation across the lake. Jesus' earliest disciples were professional fishermen who used boats like this. These boats were important to Jesus' ministry, and are mentioned 40 times in the Gospels. There is no evidence connecting this particular boat to Jesus or his disciples.      You can view this first century boat for yourself: It is on display near the Sea of Galilee in the Yigal Allon museum in Ginosar, Israel.

Butler, MS, Ed., RNC This book begins the adventure of John the Apostle as he turns fourteen, is baptized by John the Baptist, and meets Jesus.John and his friends are typical teenagers who get in trouble, make amends, explore, meet exciting people, and see miracles.John was thrilled when Jesus chose him to be lowest rank, which meant he would be always at his teacher's side, see what others wouldn't see, and learn that "the last will become first."Teens will love the characters' friendships, contemporary language, and escapades.Teens will share John's curiosity about the scrolls, how old writings predict current events, and how one person can be both Son of Man and the Son of God.This historical fiction tale brings to life the faith and fervor of John and his peers through John's first-hand account of Jesus turning water into wine, healing the sick, casting out demons, cleansing the lepers, and other marvels. The reader is drawn in by the realistic dialogue and exciting anecdotes about meeting the Teacher. Short chapters with catchy titles like "Hole in the Roof" make fast-paced reading. Humor makes the stories real. Example: Jesus was teaching at Bohan's house. Some men brought their paralyzed friend to be healed, and they had to break a hole in the roof to get him to Jesus. After the healed man walked out praising God, Bohan asked "But who's going to fix the hole in my roof?"Readers will eagerly anticipate upcoming episodes as more will be revealed to John, his buddies, and the world. The reader is drawn in by the realistic dialogue and exciting anecdotes about meeting the Teacher. By candace steller Set during the political turmoil of the time, John is an insightful look into the lives of Jesus, and the young men who chose to follow him, bringing a freshness to the humanity of Jesus, his disciples and their families. Meet John, who is assured by Jesus that though he is the least of the disciples, the tradeoff would be a personal relationship with him that paralleled none other. Written in a casual style and vivid imagery, you will smell the sea of Galilea, see the fishing nets, hear the voice of John the Baptist calling to believers, understand the parables Jesus teaches in their day to day context. For anyone, whether a new Christian, young Christian or seasoned Christian, who has wanted a birds eye view into the life of Jesus during his coming of age, the age of miracles, and the young men who would follow him, John is a must read.
