Beautiful, Gritty, and Emotionally Impacting By LD This book was different in that it depicted prior events (from the previous books) all shown through the eyes of the Agocii nation. At first I thought, “Wait—that villain is dead!” Then I realized I was being shown the “other side” of what happened in R.J. Larson’s other books. When I read it with that understanding, it was intriguing to see an entirely different world of events and characters. I absolutely adored the main characters—I was SO attached to them! I was also horrified by some of the pagan rituals as well as the pressures these people were forced to go through. But I was utterly enraptured by the wonderful characters who rose to the top, despite overwhelming adversity. The ending was definitely heart-crushing, and it took me a while to get over it. Yet, it seared on my heart immense respect for God—we should never bargain with Him or make vows to Him. My whole prayer life has changed…instead of begging/demanding specific things from God, I humbly ask for His will to be done. I don’t know what’s best (even if I’m sure I do), but I can’t see the resulting consequences of the outcome—so I need to let God be the Infinite, Wise, One-Who-Sees-All, and let Him decide. When pondering my deep emotional reaction to the story, I realized that R.J. Larson did an exceptional job of writing *another* incredible book—I was just personally disappointed that everything didn’t fall perfectly into place. But isn’t that real life? She writes a beautiful, gritty, emotionally-impacting, and unforgettable story. It’s beautiful and exciting, but it’s not a fairy tale—it’s real life.

Valor is captivating from beginning to end, tackling a sometimes perplexing Judges 11 within the realm of the Agocci and other nations in this fantasy realm. I cheered, cried, and sometimes even wanted to shake characters by turns. I can't help but admire Aniya, particularly approaching the climax and the end of the book (trying very hard to avoid spoilers here). The more I read, and re-read, R.J. Larson's books (starting with the Books of the Infinite Series), the more I find where she has explored passages, verses, themes, and stories from the Old Testament. The love of the Infinite , One-Who-Sees, is clear throughout.Inspirational Fantasy is an apt description. R.J. Larson is an artist with words. I swear there is a secret plot-line map and multple spreadsheets running, as all of these books are intricately interwoven. That said, you can still read just one and enjoy the story. However, to borrow a advertising tagline, Bet you cant [read] just one. If you've never picked up one of her books, I urge you to try. I believe you won't regret it.One of my "tests" for a good book, is its re-readability. (Fresh each time, enough depth to keep teasing out more story and get to know the characters even better, enjoying the read each time, etc.) R. J. Larson's books have that in spades!

I enjoyed the obvious biblical parallels, the dramatic descriptions, the challenges the characters wrestled with. This story deals with how various cultures define what is divine, what is honorable, and what is reprehensible. I enjoyed how the Invisible made Himself visible, and revealed that only He was really God. The characters have to deal with prophecies, family expectations, cultural pressures and personal choices throughout in struggles familiar to all who enjoy this kind of fantasy. I loved how the outcasts were brought back in and how the characters were challenged to forgive those who were cowardly or who had failed. The book is well named.
