Second edition of the popular ebook. Tom Fury has been running the family poboy shop on Magazine Street in Uptown New Orleans since his mother’s death. While it brings him little joy, he does it because it’s the easiest thing to do. With loyal patrons, a homegrown cook, and high-strung manager taking care of the business Tom is freed up to be altogether lazy. But can he pull it together when Hurricane Katrina sets her sights on the city? Charity follows the lives of everyone at Fury’s as they flee the storm, cope with the aftermath, and fight to make their way back home. Rising water and lost homes could be the least of their worries. As these New Orleanians struggle with missing relatives, no communications, infections, unclean water, unmedicated mental illness, and wild animals, it’s love that calls them back to a town laid waste.

I lived in New Orleans during Katrina. No other story is more accurate or represents as many people and situations as Rae does. The journey is happy, sad, thrilling, nostalgic. It just makes me want to go back to NOLA.

The characters are beautifully drawn and although they are all connected they encompass a variety of ages and backgrounds. I know it 's fiction...but I really feel I learned something from this book..
