By Lady Max This story has the tight compelling feeling of a Hemingway short story. The setting in the Keys and the time period are strongly evoked and the story brings to life the tension of a Cuba in turmoil very directly affecting the United States. The story ends in a satisfying way, but with that wonderful sense that maybe there will be a sequel or a novel coming from the events that are set up here.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Interesting historical perspective on Cuba By Catherine I enjoyed this story and the interesting setting. I loved the timing of the story, just before Castro's takeover. It's interesting (and likely accurate) to note the impressions of Castro before he assumed power vs. what really happened. The other interesting part was discovering just how corrupt the pre-Castro Cuban government was. While you got a good feel for the area through the description, and recognizing that it's hard to do a lot with a short story, I would have rather read a full novel on the subject, if only to have created a little more tension in the storyline.
