All widower Luke Hunter wants is to raise his three kids—and be left alone. When Delaney Marks arrives in town to oversee the youth group's house renovation project, Luke decides he must come out of hiding. He's worried she's too young to get the job done. He'll have to keep a close watch on her—and on his heart. Because being with the vibrant girl makes it easy to forget their age difference and to start hoping for a future he doesn't deserve. As tensions rise over project pressures, Delaney tries to make Luke see that some things are just out of his control—and that he is worthy of happiness…with her.

Rekindling the Widower's Heart (Hearts of Hunter Ridge), by Glynna Kaye

About the Author Glynna Kaye treasures memories of growing up in small Midwestern towns, and vacations spent with the Texan side of the family. She traces her love of storytelling to family gatherings where they shared hours of what they called “windjammers”—candid, heartwarming, poignant and often humorous tales of their youth and young adulthood. Glynna now lives in Arizona, and when she isn’t writing she’s gardening and enjoying photography and the great outdoors.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. "Not everyone is meant to be in your life forever, I guess."Taken aback by the unexpected, too-close-to-home observation, Luke Hunter placed a work-booted foot on the bottom step of the empty storefront's covered concrete porch, doing his best not to frown at the attractive blonde perched on the railing."But that's why," she concluded with a dazzling smile that made his breath catch, "we need to make the most of every moment, don't you think? Enjoy life to the full with a thankful heart. That's what's bringing me to Hunter Ridge—mountain country Arizona—for the summer."Until her red Ford Focus had pulled up in front of the rental property fifteen minutes late, a Beach Boys tune belting out of the stereo and her long, sun-streaked hair tumbling around her shoulders, he'd never before laid eyes on Delaney Marks. Although attempting to listen closely, he didn't quite grasp the entirety of the convoluted tale of what brought her into his world that afternoon. But, as near as he could piece together, it had something to do with the departure of a boyfriend, an aunt in poor health, and following her heart."Then I hope—" he managed something he trusted was akin to a smile "—that this property is what you're looking for.""Oh, it is." She turned to gaze down the ponderosa pine-lined road that curved through the little town's business district, then back at him. "I looked at it online before I made this appointment. It's ideal."Why were all these artsy types continuing to flock here anyway? Why not Sedona? Jerome? Someplace where they'd fit in and wouldn't annoy the locals.Without a doubt, this young woman fit the stereotype, with denim-look leggings, an embroidered turquoise tunic and dainty leather sandals. Silver hoop earrings glinted when she tilted her head, and a bracelet shimmered around her ankle. Was there a finger on either hand not encircled with a ring?Yesterday, the second day of June, Grandma Jo— Josephine Davis Hunter—told the extended family that a woman had called about renting a property along Hunter Ridge Road. No doubt another outsider determined to further change the character of their town.Unfortunately, he'd drawn the short straw and had to deal with her today when he'd much rather be balancing the Hunter Enterprise books or—better yet—solidifying long overdue relocation plans. It was more than time he took his future into his own hands—despite what family members thought. Opportunity had knocked in the form of a potential job offer from two ex-army buddies in Kansas. He had only to wait for the door to swing open. Or give it a push."I assume, Ms. Marks," he said, "that you want to take a look inside?""I'd love to."Her too-appealing mouth widened as she caught his eye with a startlingly flirtatious glance. An uncomfortable warmth crept up his neck. This wasn't the first time she'd openly looked at him that way, as if fancying what she saw.Yeah, right. Like he was buying that.Who could blame him for suspecting her motives? He was at least a decade older than her own fresh-faced mid-twenties. A military vet. A widower for the past six years. The single father of three. Barely keeping it all together. Even though she couldn't have known any of that when she breezed into town, he held no illusions that he came even close to what some pretty young babe was dreaming of.But an hourglass figure and eyes sparkling with admiration wouldn't gain her a hoped-for advantage in any rental contract negotiations. He had a houseful of hungry mouths to feed and every dime counted. Her gaze still holding his, she hopped off the railing to stand before him, close enough that he could see the sprinkling of freckles across her nose."And please, call me Delaney."With a brisk nod, he unlocked the door of the two-story natural stone building. Nestled between a pottery shop and Hunter Ridge's version of a deli, the first floor housed an open space ideal for commercial use, with a studio apartment above. He motioned for her to precede him inside and caught her fresh, citrusy fragrance as she glided by.Midafternoon sunlight slanted in from the open door and unshuttered windows, filling the high-ceilinged, wooden-floored space with an inviting glow. A faint scent of cinnamon lingered in the air, no doubt the persuasive touch of his aunt Jessi.Spreading her arms wide as if embracing the interior, Ms. Marks—Delaney—gave a soft cry of delight that echoed through the spacious room. "I knew I'd love it.""You understand, don't you," he said, feeling obligated to offer caution, "that leasing for three months rather than for an entire year means a higher monthly rental rate?"It was during the summer when Hunter Ridge—and the high elevation mountain country at large—made up for the economically slower months. She shrugged. "No worries. I'm originally from Canyon Springs, so I totally get it."Canyon Springs? That wasn't much over thirty minutes away, so why—"I could hardly believe it," she continued, "when I saw this place on the property rental website. I'd been afraid I'd get stuck in an ugly, generic apartment complex.""I don't think Hunter Ridge has too many of those."She laughed and his heart beat faster at the sound of it, as refreshing as a cool drink of water on a hot day."No, probably not." She looked happily around her. "Your town has done an admirable job of retaining its rustic character, its backcountry ambience.""We do our best to safeguard our heritage." Unfortunately, not as well as they should have in recent years.Delaney strolled across the space, empty except for a massive iron woodstove on the far side of the main room. Then she spun toward him. "I can't believe this place hasn't already been snatched up. Is there something you're not telling me? Like the roof leaks or there's no indoor plumbing?"He held up his hands in a gesture of innocence. "A couple from Flagstaff signed a lease, but unforeseen circumstances dictated that they break their contract a few days ago."She closed her eyes momentarily and drew in a slow breath, almost as if communing with an unseen person. God? Then with a contented sigh she took a confident step toward him. "Meet your new tenant."Had he heard right? "You haven't even seen all of it yet."She didn't so much as slant him a sheepish look to indicate she recognized the impulsiveness of her decision. Clearly, she wasn't a stranger to spur-of-the-moment leaps."There's an apartment, too, right?""A studio in the loft." He motioned upward to a low wall that concealed a portion of the raftered space above. "Full bath. Kitchenette. There's a balcony overlooking a patio and toward the wooded properties farther up the ridge.""I guess I should take a peek, huh?""Please do."He couldn't help but notice how gracefully she crossed the room to the rear of the building, her gently waving hair flowing down the back of her petite frame. Just beyond the staircase she paused to look in an open door. "A half bath, too? Perfect.""And a kitchen in the back."She hadn't yet mentioned her intentions for the space, but Hunter Ridge would likely be welcoming another handmade candle shop or stained-glass studio for the summer season. Not exactly what the town needed. At least, however, the town council—one member of which he had the privilege of calling Mom—might sleep better at night with another source of income added to the roster. He watched with more interest than he was willing to admit as Delaney poked her head into the kitchen, then peeped out the back door window before returning to the main room and heading up to the loft, her footsteps sounding lightly on the wooden stairs. The next thing he knew, she peered down at him from over the low wall, dimples bracketing a wide smile. "Just as I thought. Love at first sight. Where do I sign?"No haggling? No pointing out that he'd already laid claim to the previous person's forfeited deposit so he could afford to cut her a sweeter deal? But in this economy, he wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth."Come on down, then, and we'll do business."While few Hunter Ridge natives cared for the influx of newcomers, the bottom line could be a hard taskmaster. But the interlopers would pay well to snag a piece of this mountain country paradise. For that very reason, Delaney's showstopping smile would serve to little advantage. While the engaging look she occasionally cast his way sparked an almost forgotten flicker of masculine satisfaction, he tamped it down. He had neither the time nor the energy for flirtatious females.Been there, done that. And, God help him, he was still paying the price.Less than an hour later, Luke Hunter rose from behind a wooden desk to drop two keys into Delaney's outstretched palm."Welcome to Hunter Ridge.""Thank you." But despite his hospitable-sounding words, it was clear the sober-eyed Luke Hunter wasn't thrilled at the prospect of renting the place to her. Not that he was hostile, exactly. Maybe resigned was a more accurate word.In a town with too many empty storefronts, you'd think he'd have laid on a thick coat of persuasion to prevent her from marching down the street to the next available space. Instead, when they'd retreated to the offices of Hunter Enterprises, across the blacktop road and a few doors down from what was to be her new summer abode, he'd practically tried to talk her out of signing. But parking limitations, minuscule dimensions of the apartment, and precautions regarding the woodstove didn't faze her in the least. This summer was to be a chance not only to help the local church youth ministry while remaining conveniently close to her aunt in Canyon Springs, but an opportunity to find out if her artistic talents held any merit. Would her skills eventually rescue her from a lifetime with her nose pressed to a computer monitor?"I can hardly wait to move in." She stood, tucking the keys and paperwork into her oversize woven purse, a tingle of anticipation skimming up her spine. But whether that was solely rooted in God leading her to an ideal property for the summer or founded in the somewhat hesitant smile her handsome new landlord had just bestowed, she couldn't be sure.Probably a bit of both. She rewarded his effort with a high-wattage smile of her own, but he frowned ever so slightly and abruptly stepped to a shelving unit to purposefully peruse its contents. Was he shy? Unsociable? Or a man with more important things on his mind than the eagerness of a new tenant embarking on a summer adventure?Nevertheless, she again couldn't help but notice how he held himself with an almost military bearing, the overhead light that illuminated his neatly clipped, sandy brown hair also emphasizing the strong planes of his face. No, he didn't appear to be a man who'd empathize with her bubbling enthusiasm, nor had she missed the flicker of censure in his eyes when she'd presented her photo ID. He'd clearly been unimpressed by the evidence of her recent California residency.Finding what he was looking for, Luke pulled a navy blue folder from a shelf and handed it to her. "Hunter Ridge Chamber of Commerce" it proclaimed in raised lettering. The possible significance of his last name and that of the community hadn't been lost on her."Although you can find this information online, I keep a few of these on hand." He motioned to the folder as she flipped through its contents. "Since water, gas and electricity are included, you won't need to make those arrangements. You mentioned, too, that opening a business isn't your intent, so those sections won't pertain to you, either.""The space will be my studio." Loving the sound of that—so artistic and professional—she proudly held out both hands, palms downward, to display her rings. "I make jewelry and hope to sell it through the Hunter Ridge Artists' Cooperative."The corners of Luke's mouth dipped downward, but he made no comment. Instead, he briefly studied the varied ring designs, then gave a brisk nod. "Very nice.""Thanks." She slowly drew back her hands, irritated with herself for hoping to hear something more along the lines of a few oohs and aahs. When had she become so insecure, constantly in need of reassurance regarding her craft?A telltale muscle tightened in her throat. Since both Aunt Jen and Dwayne Moorley dismissed her artistic efforts as having no significance, that's when. She drew in a reviving breath. "I've been making jewelry for myself and friends since a high school art class introduced me to working with silver. But it's time to see what the rest of the world thinks.""I wish you the best, then."Would it be too much to hope that friends and family members would feel the same? If she turned her back on the education her aunt had sacrificed to provide for a pretty much penniless, parentless niece, there would be few who wouldn't think her a foolish and most ungrateful young woman. She no longer cared about Dwayne's opinion, but would Aunt Jen ever forgive her? With that sobering thought, she nevertheless managed a cheery farewell, and spun toward the door, away from Luke Hunter's probing gaze."Oh!"Tottering dangerously, her attempt at a poised exit faltered as the dog she'd tripped over leaped aside with a pitiful yelp.Luke caught her by the upper arm with a steadying grip. "Are you okay?"Warmth crept into her cheeks as she stared for a too-long moment into his intense blue eyes, her heart beating at an erratic clip. Then, with a self-conscious laugh, she slipped free of his grasp and stepped away, once again secure on her own two feet. "I'm fine, so you can relax. I'm not the suing type."He looked momentarily taken aback. Then glanced down at the German shepherd that had retreated behind his master. "It's fortunate, then, that Rags isn't, either."Shouldn't that quip have been accompanied by a smile? But she didn't spy so much as a trace of a grin on his face.Nevertheless, she knelt down to call softly to the dog and, after only a moment's hesitation, he trotted to her, tail wagging, to be petted. "Sorry, big guy."Amends made, she rose to her feet once more, only to be caught off-guard by an unexpected sadness in Luke's eyes. She'd stepped on his dog, tossed out ill-received lawsuit humor and made peace with the pup. Surely none of those things had wounded his feelings. But he didn't look inclined to share his thoughts, so she bid him a hasty adieu and departed.Once outside, she paused to catch her breath and take in the hodgepodge of older stone and frame buildings along the tree-lined road. Some snuggled against each other as if for mutual support, others were standalones with towering ponderosas pressing in close. A few, obviously vacant, stared almost forlornly at their more fortunate, occupied neighbors. But despite evidence to the contrary, Delaney sensed the promise of renewed life in the community.A life she hoped to tap into this summer. Her heart lightening, she angled across the road to her new home, then trotted up the steps. The summer held so much potential, a freedom she hadn't experienced since college graduation. And who was to say she couldn't arrange to bump into Luke Hunter more frequently than anticipated? After all, this was a small town. And he did have amazing blue eyes.No wedding ring, either. She snatched up a flier tucked into the edge of the door, then inserted the key in the dead-bolt lock. If she could somehow banish that cheerless look she'd glimpsed and coax out a few smiles, the summer might be especially fun.But she'd barely gripped the doorknob when a shadow emerged from the corner of her mind, halting her flight of fancy. With a sigh, she pushed open the door and stepped inside. Would she never learn? As Aunt Jen often reminded, when something—or someone—looked too good to be true, it usually was.Standing in the shadows, Luke held aside the office curtain and gazed toward the property Delaney Marks would be occupying for the next three months. She'd unlocked the door, briefly disappeared inside, and was now pulling a suitcase out of the backseat of her car."You're not going to believe this, big guy," he said to the dog seated at his feet. "She's moving in already."Big guy. That's what his wife had called Rags from the time he was a tiny puppy. Odd that Delaney called him that, too, though he wasn't the largest of his breed.Luke's gaze lingered as the new tenant tucked a floral sleeping bag under her arm and dragged an oversize pink suitcase up the porch steps. Talk about an optimist. She was eager to stretch her wings. To reach for her dreams. To taste all life had to offer. He'd been like that once. A long time ago.

By Amazon Customer “Rekindling the Widower's Heart” by Glynna Kaye is the first book in her 'Hearts of Hunter Ridge' series and it is a wonderful start of a series as well. I think there are a few characters whose stories are still to come in this series and I look forward to seeing them, and this story I almost want to say let the reader in on a little bit of each of the Hunter family past.I have to say that this really isn't the May-December relationship that the back hints at for I would say it is more of a July-September relationship. Though what is the actual age difference isn't something that I would have even blinked at eye at one does seem to have a problem with it, but I got a kick out how they each handled things. A lot of times when I have seen a age difference that seems to matter to one character more than the other, one character might be a little more immature while the other one is way more mature than most people their age, but this time it is not the case.Delaney is a woman who has some dreams and she is taking time to reach those dreams, but she is not unrealistic as to think she is owed anything while she tries to reach her dreams. She has this positive outlook for nearly everything she does or is a part of. She is a woman who remembers what it is like to be young by continuing to live life to the fullest and having unplanned fun when the opportunity arises. Delaney is also a woman who shows a lot of determination and though she really doesn't explain at first why she is determined to do what she says she will do but once everything is out there it makes a lot of sense. She is a woman who tends to feel a lot while not allowing those feelings to rule her in a remarkable balanced way.Luke is a man who is a bit too set in his ways it seems like. At times I became frustrated with him because of how set in his ways he was but yet when he interacted with his family there is something that really shows what is underneath all of his stern behaviors. As his whole story comes out, I saw him a completely different light. This is a man who only wants what is for the best for his family more than anything else even if that means doing something unpopular. He has a bit of a dark outlook on everything it seems but then again with what has gone on in his past, it is understandable why he is just this way.Neither Luke or Delaney is too mature or immature for their age, which actually blended perfectly with who each one of them were. They seemed to balance each other out in the long run when they gave themselves a chance to work together. It seems as if there is a roller coaster of ups and downs with this relationship, if you even want to call it that, for it seems as if one or the other, for different reasons, pull away from the other. When they worked together it was something really special though that is for sure.It seemed to me that the biggest theme in this story is compassion. Compassion offered to those that some don't believe deserving yet determination to offer the compassion none the less. This was a story that not only showed compassion but how offering compassion can lead to understanding and possibly forgiveness. Several times there was a soft and tender reminder about why no one should judge another without getting all the facts first for things are not what they always appear to be. Guilt is also another issue that is dealt with for one and/or more of the characters are dealing with their own guilt which is either fully or at least partially dealt with by the end of the story.About the only thing I didn't really care about the story is the fact that it took place over a short period of time. I didn't get the feeling that there was really a deepening of the friendship between Luke and Delaney while they worked together but I didn't feel the attraction to each other from the start. I never felt that the feelings that they admitted were forced or anything but I have to wonder how they could be so sure of their feelings after the short period of time when they didn't know what all made them tick, though in one night secrets that has never been revealed to anyone else comes out. I might have missed something though I will admit in the relationship between Luke and Delaney. As I said that was the only thing that I had issue with for this story was well written with a theme that seemed to be a perfect reminder to me at the moment. The conflict between Luke and Delaney was a nice blend to add to everything that was happening. Though I missed the deepening of friendship I found this story to be wonderful in all other aspects for the characters had their strengths and flaws and even their humorous moments. The writing of the story is done in such a way that it is hard to not allow your emotions through and I found it hard to put the book down period. This is a book I would highly recommend to all who are looking for a tender romance with a special message.

He's so invested in controlling everything that he doesn't recognize the damage he's doing to himself -- and his children. Argh, I wanted to throttle him. A lot. But at the same time I felt sorry for him because the more he tries to take control the more things unravel beyond his grasp. Unwittingly, Delaney is at the heart of that unraveling. Sparks sizzle between the two from their very first meet but Luke is in major denial. He has lots of excuses, not the least of which is their age difference. But really, he's just piling up barriers -- a defence mechanism he's completely unaware of. At first. That leaves Delaney in a constant state of confusion, trying to work through the mixed messages she's receiving from Luke. She's not afraid to go at it with him -- toe to toe. Speaking her mind. Standing her ground. And she calls him on his judgemental views more than a time or two. In case you think I didn't like Luke, you're wrong. I liked him. Too much. So when he did something...stupid...I wasn't just a little disappointed. I was really disappointed. But isn't that so like real life? People build their lives around past hurts and perceived failures. They'll do incomprehensible things to protect themselves and their loved ones from any more harm. The only solution to such a heartbreaking dilemma is to let God take control. That's a hard lesson for both Luke and Delaney to learn...and for me too, because in some ways I'm like Luke. Fussing and holding onto things I should have let go a long time ago. Come to think of it, that similarity is probably why I wanted to throttle Luke so much. :-)Love when I find sweet nuggets of inspiration amidst my fiction!

By Vince I must say that I've been reading this author's books for years and I've never missed a "Canyon Springs" romance. Of the over 1000 romances I've read, Glynna Kaye's Canyon Springs setting is the one I like best and also the location where I'd love to live myself. So you can see I was not looking forward to her series moving to a new location: Hunter's Ridge. In fact, while I preordered, "Rekindling the Widower's Heart", months ago, I put off reading it until now, that her new book is out, for fear I would not like the new location. Well, "Hunter's Ridge" is just as welcoming as "Canyon Springs" and better yet it is only thirty minutes away so the author can call on all the same characters from her past books. Which is very nice since, when you read a series for years, many of the past characters become like old friends. The author always writes a great romance but so do many of my other favorite authors. You can learn the theme and plot from the blurb and other reviews. What was important to me was that the new location would not disappoint and it didn't. I'm sure "Hunter's Ridge" will continue to deliver dependable 5-star reading enjoyment. However, truth be told, I'm still want to move in real life to Canyon Springs. Hunter's Ridge is a little too small for me. : )BTW -- Now that I know it is safe, I will move on and read the author's new book, "Claiming the Widow's Heart". I won't wait for months to read thi new book. And just maybe I'll get another peek at Canyon Springs.Location Alone Makes This a 5-Star Success!

Secrets of a Charmed Life is the story of how two young sisters survived World War II in London.

In 2015, at Stow-on-the-Wold in the English countryside, Kendra Van Zant, a history major, interviews ninety-three year old Isabel MacFarland. Kendra quickly realizes Isabel is not her subject’s real name, nor is she ninety-three. Isabel, a well-known artist, tells Kendra the tale of two young girls living in London just before the beginning, in the spring of 1940, of the strategic bombing campaign by the Germans against London that became known as the Blitz. The story centers on fifteen year old, Emmy, and seven year old, Julia.

Emmy and Julia’s mother, Anne, is a single mother working as a maid. She is able to care well for them, but she is often out of the house. Emmy has to be the responsible member of the household when it comes to caring for Julia…

This type of analysis can be used for a number of things. This is great if, for example, you are curious about the book but don't wish to read through 416 pages or if you need something to refresh your memory of the novel for school or a book club.Additionally, it is also very well-written and well edited. The writing of the author flows and it was easy to read. The summary also provides a valuable analysis of the characters as well as the themes in the novel. The analysis covers all elements of the plot and identifies things you could’ve missed while reading the actual book. There’s also a review of the characters.I truly enjoyed reading this. All in all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. stellar review of a great novel By Amazon Customer Great review of a great book. This must has you on the edge of your seat, pulling you though the interview. The narrative is gripping, and the voice is compelling. This review of "Secrets of a Charmed Life" was a quick, fun read, one I really enjoyed. The analysis of deception and secrecy was very compelling. It was interesting to see how these three sisters each used deception, intentionally and unintentionally, and how these lies tied the mystery together.I wish there was more to say about the journalist in this review, but obviously they couldn't fit everything in. I loved this review and recommend it for everyone.

By Anne Mitchell I have read several books recently dealing with the World War II and I think they have been an excellent reminder of the tragic incidents that happened to those innocent people who became victims of Hitler and his obsession for power. I was in my early teens during the 2nd World War. I watched my grandfather change the pins around on a map(to try to keep track of one son and 5 sons-in-law) each evening as he listened to the news on his radio. On the other side of the family two uncles and several cousins were also in the service. As they turned 18 some of the boys dropped out of school to volunteer before they were drafted. Our school scoured all the farms in the county for discarded machinery for recycling, saved all the foil on our gum wrappers and rolled it into balls, bought war bonds and did all we could to help boost the moral of "our" soldiers. Everyone did all they could to support our military in any way possible. I wrote to all family members in the service to keep them informed on family and community news and they wrote back. Shoes, sugar, coffee, gas, tires, and many other items were rationed. It took months to a year or two to get a new car or truck. The war was real here. Many of our fine young men did not return home after the war. WE WERE A VERY PATRIOTIC NATION AT THAT TIME AND I HOPE THAT THE MANY WHO HAVE CHOSEN TO LIVE IN THIS NATION WOULD RISE TO HELP PROTECT IT IF THE NEED EVER ROSE AGAIN. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL OTHER NATIONS THAT WE MAY LIVE TOGETHER PEACEFULLY.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A great ending to the Trilogy By Brian Street Light is the third book in R. L. Herron's Reichold Street Trilogy. Ron Herron is master craftsman at grabbing the reader and transporting them into the story. His first two books introduced us to the Reichold Street cast and followed them into adulthood. The third story picks up where the second one leaves off and moves towards tying up all the loose ends and lingering questions.I was pleasantly surprised by the manner in which the author portrayed the multitude of complex emotions his characters endured—the highs and the lows, while convincingly setting up the climax that would bring about the sad ending to a great series. Well done Mr. Herron!

Damaged Hearts, by Angel Wolfe

About the Author About the Author Angel Wolfe was born in Muscatine, Iowa and learned to read by the age of three. When she was five, she moved with her family to northwest New Mexico where by the time she reached the age of eleven, she began reading romance novels pilfered from her mother. In high school, Angel often sat with the textbook open and a romance novel sitting inside it. After high school, she began writing stories in notebooks because she didn’t own a typewriter. Later, Angel neared completion of her first novel, Damaged Hearts but she couldn’t bring herself to end it (until now!) Since that time, she has written four short stories and is nearing completion on both a contemporary novel and a paranormal romance novel. When she's not writing or curled up with a book, Angel loves to watch her son play football, basketball or compete in other sports. One of her greatest dreams is to find herself published and listed on the New York Times bestsellers list. Angel still lives in New Mexico with her husband, her son, and her dog, a little Muppet with teeth, otherwise known as Rusty. She can be found at naughtyangelsbedtimestories@ymail.com

I was loving this book until about the middle point. I enjoy reading fantasy/paranormal such as magic, time travel, alternate universe, etc. I also enjoy religious books and love it when they can coincide. However, when this writer went from time travel to Jesus sending someone to earth to help people, I had misgivings. Because the initial storyline had me hooked, I wanted to continue. I hoped my misgivings were unfounded. Sadly, this story became very dark and began discussing evil sorceresses, immortals, stages of Hell where human type heads were ripped from animal bodies and eaten. I stopped reading at that exact point. The author may have intended a good versus evil scenario, but something went wrong. I am so disappointed...

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Troianne will touch your soul, bend all reality and keep you wanting more! A definite must read!! By S C Clarke I was enthralled by the on goings in this book. Troianne is definitely a masterpiece. Crystal Lynn Miles Gauthier will pull you into this book to the point that you can not put it down. All the time reading I'm thinking Troianne would make a magnificent mini series. Cannot wait to read Diana's Magic.

The plot is decent, and the subject matter fascinating, but the writing needs a lot of work. My first problem is the fact that the 2013 Troi is impossibly old fashioned in her inner and outer dialogue. The author's persistent refusal to use contractions in sentences as is the norm for today just gave the story an overall too formal and dated feel. The personality of the main character, Troi was just strange really. What 21 year-old in 2013 would say: "Goodness, I must look a fright!" or call a good looking man a "hunk". I'm not even really sure that was a term when I was 21 and I am 47 years old. I'm pretty sure my mom called men hunks. The list of inconsistencies for the times, behavior and speech with this young woman is too long to list in a review. My second problem with the story is how angry everyone was at Becker. Immediately Troi was freaking out because he didn't call her so she could inform him she was pregnant. Uhm, well for one thing he was caught in the 1800's for much of her pregnancy I imagine. Even if he did get her messages, he likely had bigger fish to fry than call back a one night stand when he was obviously preoccupied with the fact he was a time traveler. Hello? Besides, in 2013 we do not blame a man for bedding a willing woman. it was her choice as much as his to embark on a casual night of passion, this, by her own admission. The fact that the dad beat the "snot" out of him for it was just over the top. Just weird. My third problem with this book is the very progressive and bizarre dialogue and actions of the 1800's lot. I read a lot of historical novels and the characters are just ridiculous. A butler who berates a guest? A duchess who gets drunk watching the drama? A man of high station, (don't even get me started on the lack of research on the levels and titles of Peerage in 1800 England) would never, ever accept or marry a woman who gave birth out of wedlock. He would never attend a birth. Besides it is impossible that an Earl (he is actually a Duke but the author got that wrong too) would deliver a baby or be a doctor for that matter in those times. Doctoring was considered a low profession in those days. Not to mention a man of his title would be responsible for the village people and would not expect payment for his services like a common working man as was implied here when a villager babysat because she couldn't pay her bill. The status of the physician was not elevated to today's regard until much, much later in history so that part of the story is completely wrong for the times. A Duke just wouldn't have been a trained doctor, it wasn't done.In all fairness I only made it to 39% so it may have improved, but really I just couldn't go on. There were other problems with the book too, like a grey, cloudy day that was described several paragraphs later as sunny and warm. Troi went to sleep for "several hours" and awoke "later in the morning", at 9AM when the maid was "just starting her day". In the 1800's a maid would be up at probably 4am to start her day. Troi's immediate acceptance of 1800's fashion and hairstyles. The insta-love between Duncan and Troi. It was several days and like 2 conversations before she was in love with him. Just too many things to get past for me. I have to wonder sometimes what people are thinking with the 5 star reviews for books that are so annoyingly and obviously not well thought out. I am sorry I wasted my money on this book.

Truthfully, I dread reading new authors to me. However, I was surprised. I flew through this book. I read it in 6 days, while working a 50 hour week, going to school and packing to move. So any spare time I was reading. The premise revolves around 5 young ladies from various walks of life that end up becoming roommates. By an off chance they are all off work at the same time with nothing to do. While shopping they spot a beautiful wedding dress. The story evolves from there to how each young lady meets their future husband to end up wearing the dress to their perspective wedding. Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for review.

Imagine five women in the early 50's being thrown together as roommates. All strangers except for two that grew up as pen pals. One rare day they find themselves spending the day together and during that time they spot a beautiful breathtaking wedding dress in an exclusive shop window. On a whim they decide to go in and each try on the dress. The sales lady is a little put out knowing she'll be spending time with each of them and no sales in sight. After they all try the dress on they decide to each put in a fifth of the cost of the dress even though none have a marriage in the works. Each lady on their wedding day gets to wear the dress, then it is passed on to the next to marry. Thus begins the story of their friendship, challenges and romances.Betty was my favorite character. She was the stabilizing force among the women. She also had the maiden name Estes, which is also my maiden name. Another of the ladies, Joan, wound up in the south eventually, where I live. She spent many growing up years in England so the south was a great culture shock. Evelyn was the last to marry and the dress was then passed down to her daughter-in-law and then her granddaughter. The story of the five brides was told to the granddaughter, who was getting ready to be married and wear the dress. The author, Eva Marie Everson, based this book loosely on a true story involving Joan Hunt. Her character was stretched somewhat and the others were totally fictional. I enjoyed this book and how each character had her own unique story. The way different situations were handled was a true representation of the fifties time period. Being born in the fifties, it is one of my favorite time periods to read about. As you read this book you'll come to love each lady in their own uniqueness, the friendships built along the way and the family dynamics involved. I highly recommend this book.I was given a copy of this book by Bookfun through the publisher for my honest review, which I have given.

Intriguing By baseballblondie With five single women sharing an apartment together in the early 1950's Chicago, they each live their own independent lives. They rarely see each other let alone all have a day off at the same time. One rare occasion all five roommates were home on the same Saturday, and they spy a bridal gown in the window of the famous Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co. Each of the girls fell in love with the dress. They immediately ask to try on the dress - all five of them - though none of them have a date let alone a boyfriend. The girls decide to pool their money and purchase the dress. Yet how can one dress be shared among five completely different women? And which woman will end up with the dress?I'll admit that I was intrigued by one dress being shared among five different women and the stories they would tell. So I requested to review this book. I wondered how the concept would work. I was impressed. This is the first book I've read by this author. And I enjoyed it immensely.I think that the story line that intrigued me the most was Betty's story. While it appeared that Joan really was the main character, I actually liked Betty the best. Though I'd have still liked to have discovered what happened to the other girls AFTER their weddings. Betty, though, we kinda of found out what happened. And then of course we discover which of the girls ended up with the dress.I'd be interested in reading more books by this author. I found the book to be a rather quick read, once I started it that is.I received the Kindle version of this book for free from Tyndale via NetGalley for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.Recommended to fans of historical fiction, women's fiction, Susan May Warren, Deborah Raney, Katie Ganshert,Rating - 4 stars

ENJOYED THIS BOOK By bbm Although, as with so many of the books I get for my KIndle from Amazon, this book had a few editing glitches but not nearly as many as some of the "chick lit" books where the grammar is awful and the punctuation non-existent. Anyway, that being said, I found this book to be quite engrossing. I especially like the character of Julius. The "mystery" was solved fairly clearly and I found myself truly interested in learning the actual fate of Phillippe. Try this book - you'll like it if you are looking for a little history, a charming setting, and engaging characters.

I am so glad I found Elizabeth Edmonson's book, as she quickly turned into one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book, as the twists and turns kept me turning the pages. The main characters were quite engaging; I especially enjoyed teenager Olivia. I very much look forward to reading more of Edmonson's books in the future. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this book although some bits were maybe a bit obvious. I really liked the description of travelling through France in the '40s-'50s. It reminded me of my first vacation in France with my parents in 1956. Really recommended.

RUSS NICHOLSON and EMILY LANDRY fly to Heraklion, Crete, to help wealthy Greek widow ATHANA MARINATOS study the ancient Minoans. The day they arrive, the murdered body of Athana’s friend YTN is discovered stuffed into a burial urn in a Heraklion Museum. The police think art-reproductions dealer GEORGE DAFAMAKIS is the killer, but Russ and Emily suspect Museum guards DIOGENES and EIRENE. The tourist ED POWERS warns Emily and Russ to stay away from Athana. Since they now mistrust her, Athana tells Russ and Emily the truth: she’s an ancient Minoan from 1450 BC, where POTNI, leader of the warlike Mycenaeans, has just conquered her people. Emily and Russ don’t believe her, so she whisks them forward in time a few hours. Russ convinces Athana to take them back to 1450 BC. Once there a Minoan “soother” puts him into a “waking dream” and Russ almost dies. Mycenaeans chase Athana and Emily through the fabled Palace of Knossos, and the three only narrowly escape back to the 21st century. Athana tells Russ and Emily her real reason for asking them to Crete: to help her warn the world about the 4000 BC origin of “starvation culture,” an ugly way of life that sprang up after massive climate change devastated one-third of the earth’s land surface.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Fantasy Romp Through Utopian Minoa By David Del Bourgo "Minoan Time Traveler" is the first part of a murder mystery that takes the reader through a vividly described modern Crete and an extremely imaginative and exceptionally well-researched ancient Crete of Minoan times, approximately 3500 years ago. More than a mystery, though, "Minoan Time Traveler" is a thoughtful novel that introduces the reader to a concept of a utopian society that is unusually fresh and cannot be found in many other books--certainly not another mystery. Although in many ways "Minoan Time Traveler" is a philosophical book, its tone is not at all heavy. It's a fun fantasy romp with three quirky main characters who are locked and loaded for a mind-blowing adventure.

Mosley The novel started OK and it seemed like it could be a decently written mystery, but it degenerated into New Age nonsense that made it very hard to finish. It's a novel so I can suspend my belief, but it has to be half-way believable and the New Age crap completely turned me off. Don't bother unless you're into that. I gave it two stars because at least the writing was decent.

Glory be to God on high, and thanksgiving, and the voice of praise, who at one time by the mysteries of prophecy, at another by oracles from Heaven, again by the reading of the Gospel, and now by the mouth of preachers, in many ways and by divers channels, most sincerely urges and invites us to honor the Virgin Mary, the Queen of Heaven and of the Angels; that by her holy merits, most worthy of all acceptance, we, being delivered from the depths of hell, may be inscribed by her in the ranks of the angels.

Good, but needs larger font By Caelo While I concur with the other reviewers, and am glad to have this book available, I wish that a larger font size was used; this might only be a problem for my aging eyes. Additionally, it would be good to prevent the first line of a psalm starting at the bottom of a page (this happens a few times). Lastly, sometimes a blank line separates parts of a sentence as P.28, Psalm 61, and P. 32, Psalm 71.

I have consecrated my life to the Blessed Virgin Mary (as did St. John Paul I I ) and have struggled with how to pray to her. This is a fabulous way to do just that. Anyone who has dedicated their life to her,or just want to learn how to petition her to pray for us, this is a great help!!
