About the Author Leenie Brown has always been a girl with an active imagination, which, while growing up, was a both an asset, providing many hours of fun as she played out stories, and a liability, when her older sister and aunt would tell her frightening tales. At one time, they had her convinced Dracula lived in the trunk at the end of the bed she slept in when visiting her grandparents! Although it has been years since she cowered in her bed in her grandparents' basement, she still has an imagination that occasionally runs away with her, and she feeds it now as she did then -- by reading! Her heroes, when growing up, were authors, and the worlds they painted with words were (and still are) her favourite playgrounds! She was that child, under the covers with the flashlight, reading until the wee hours of the morning...and pretending not to be tired the next day so her mother wouldn't find out. Today, she fits, or is that squeezes, reading in around caring for her family of two fabulous (most of the time) teenage boys and one sweet and thoughtful husband while working full time as a junior-high teacher. In addition to feeding her imagination, she also exercises it -- by writing. While writing has been an activity she has dabbled in over the years, it blossomed into a full-fledged obsession when she stumbled upon the world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction. As the second born of five sisters, just like Elizabeth Bennet, her imagination was soon captured. And now, she spends much time in the regency world playing with the characters from her favourite Jane Austen novels and a few that are of her own creation. When she is not traipsing down a trail in an attempt to keep up with her imagination, she resides in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia. Fun and Enjoyable P&P Variation By Beverlee S When Elizabeth escapes to London after Mr. Collins’ unwelcome proposal, it is with the purpose of escaping her mother’s paroxysms of nerves, so that all may achieve some peace of mind. While out and about, a chance encounter gives Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy the opportunity for a fresh start. But will old threats and new dangers interfere with their Happily Ever After?I enjoyed this book. It is very nicely written, with fresh and comfortable prose. It tells a sweet story with just enough angst to keep the pages turning. We never truly fear for our favourite couple, but there are some moments of suspense that get the heart beating just that much faster.The gems in Ms. Brown’s novel are her characters. She shows us a side to the Bennet sisters that will surprise and delight, and Lizzy in particular is wonderful to rediscover in this new light. Under the tutelage of Ms. Brown’s pen, Lizzy becomes a dashing hero in her own right. Jane and Mary also shine in their newly revealed roles. The antagonists are deliciously nasty, but the introduction of the Gardiners’ children is a highlight that provides a terrific balance to the evil-doers. There is some lovely dialogue throughout the book, and a few sweet romantic surprises are thrown in for good measure.There are a few minor inconsistencies and modern turns of phrase, but they did not interfere with my enjoyment of this sweet book. If you love P&P and want something to keep you entertained and amused on a rainy (or sunny) afternoon, this is a good choice.I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The above reflects my true thoughts on the novel.

By Avid reader Don't be shocked: I found this book to be very well written, not rippled with grammatical errors or proofing errors. I congratulate Ms. Brown on her writing skills or on her ability to select good helpers, perhaps both. At any rate, it''s a relief not to be complaining about errors. So far as the story itself goes, my kudos are not quite so high. It was certainly better than simply OK. I liked all the surprises in the plot. Unfortunately, something was missing. Perhaps the several twists needed more depth, even more angst. Whatever caused my dissatisfaction largely made the story too much of a bit of fluff. My recollection of her Cottage book is that I liked it better. I will still purchase her books in the future. Her writing has been fine, but I think she will realize more of her potential in future books. I did find the book pleasant to read and do thank her for that. Next time I want more of a full literary meal.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Happy Read By Sara I liked it very much. I am more happy when there is little angst and suffering from either Elizabeth or Mr. Darcy. I also liked having the Gardiner children so involved to show such a tender side of Mr. Darcy and the protective and nurturing nature of Elizabeth. I also liked that Lady Catherine did not immediately change her ways, but eventually came to appreciate Elizabeth. The good-nature of all the rest of the characters (excepting, of course Miss Bingley) made for a happy read. I did think it overplayed Elizabeth's (and Jane's) remarkable combat abilities!I found it interesting that all the characters' images were improved, (even Miss Bingley and excepting Wickham!) except Mr. Collins. I thought maybe he would become a more suitable husband for Mary, but we were given no such impression. Mary seemed as adept as Charlotte at handling him. And, as Elizabeth asked Mary, "who are you?" I think we all agreed with that assessment, as well as pleased for both she and Anne to have found their voices.

Ghost Adventure By paintmonet Billabong Ghost by Ryn Shell begins at the end of World War Two in the Australian Outback.I think that the book is loosely based on real characters and it's interesting from that aspect alone. Some of the slang is challenging, but for what's not obvious from context, is captured in the glossary the author thoughtfully included.The story revolves around a cattle baron named Fife living in the area a days travel outside of Sydney, (the Blue Mountains perhaps?). In effect, It's an Australian Western. There's a mystery surrounding the death of Charlotte, a long dead mixed race girl killed in the creek during what's called the Fife Springs Massacre. She is the Billabong Ghost and she gives guidance to those that seek her out. Apparently, there was an illicit relationship between her and the cattle baron that ended with her death. Now she haunts the billabong, a seasonal creek bed important to cattle ranchers in watering their cattle.I've been to Australia twice and at one point did some horseback riding in the Blue Mountains outside of Sydney, so when the book mentioned damper, camp bread baked in a Dutch oven, it brought back memories that had turned fond over time. I think this book gives insight into Australian history and relations with Aboriginal tribesman and folklore. Therefore, it will be appealing to folks interested in such cultural things.It's an enjoyable read and offers inexpensive time travel to Australia in the aftermath of WWII. To me, visualizing how Australians viewed the war was worth the price of admission alone. The narrative imparts some interesting and unknown history of that period. To wit, the Australian Air Force scattered their forces and disguised them as homesteads and some Australians made their own military uniforms.

The lives of the characters are woven through a tale of Australia in the 1950's, I learnt some hisotrical information and was so keen to get the next book and continue to get to know more of the families lives. Would highly recommend.

It Flowed and Kept Me Interested By Avid Reader I thought I would be put off by the fact that there is Australian dialogue in this book that I was unfamiliar with, but the reader is able to decipher what those words mean as they read through the sentence. So it's not just for people who know the dialect, but for everyone. I did read through the glossary of terms at the back for my own curiosity, and I found it to be very informative.On to the actual book itself. I just want to start off with `wow'. I mean, it was an intriguing twist of events that led up to an amazing climax that really blew my mind! Charlotte was an amazing character, and I really felt for her throughout the story as well as at the end. Even after I found out what she had done. I'm not going to go any deeper than that because it would ruin the story. The young boy, Harry, is a sad character throughout this book, and I really felt for him as well. I don't want to give too much away here, either, but just the way his parents treated him made me feel bad for him.I really can't wait to read the second one, and I'm off to do that right now!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Vespasian's adventures By JPS This is volume 6 of Vespasian’s fictionalised adventures. As the author mentions in his historical note, we know virtually nothing about Vespasian for about a decade following his return from Britannia. Rather than assume that he retired to his estates at the end of his two-month period as a consul, Fabbri has chosen to keep him deeply involved and at the centre of the political machinations and struggles for the succession of Emperor Claudius. The other obvious advantage and merit of such a choice is to allow the author to describe and portray Rome’s often tense relations with the Parthian Empire and its rivalry and competition over who would control the strategic highlands of Armenia.This choice is, of course, part of an author license when writing a piece of historical fiction. It makes for a more interesting story and it is also something that Fabbri has done in some of his previous volumes dealing with Vespasian’s earlier years, and done quite successfully. Making this choice does however also mean running a bit of a risk by making the hero a bit too central or having him go through adventures and ordeals which he survives rather miraculously. The main example here is the hero’s “enforced stay” as a hostage of a satellite King who is vassal to the Parthian monarch and his somewhat implausible escape and return to Rome. Also a bit hard to believe, although just about possible, is the somewhat Machiavellian plot to provoke a Parthian-Roman war, although I will not mention anything more with regards to this in order to avoid spoilers.The pieces I happened to prefer where those related to the power struggle surrounding Claudius’ last years. Here again, the author has make a number of choices, one of which being to depict the ageing Emperor as completely inadequate, and a drunkard in addition. Whether he really was so incapable is debatable but, again, this is the author’s choice. It is a rather plausible one given the grievous political mistakes that he made, mistakes that the author clearly show as being tantamount to suicide.Another key feature and quality of this book is the depiction of characters and the description of the behaviours adopted by some of the historical protagonists. Two in particular – the overambitious and power hungry Agrippina (grand-daughter of Germanicus) and the cruel and unpleasant comedian Nero, her “darling” and rather unbalanced son, are particularly lurid. Nero’s reign started auspiciously and the new and young Princeps was rather popular to begin with. There was little, if anything, allowing anyone to predict how and to what extent it would degenerate and Vespasian would have been very unlikely to be in any position to “predict” this, although the outcome of the succession and Britannicus’ (the legitimate heir to Claudius and his son) rather limited future under the new regime was probably more obvious and are very vividly described.There are also a few little glitches, such as the assignment of five cohorts of auxiliary infantry, all of which being eight hundred strong. This number does not correspond to a cohort’s size, not even a double sized one (the theoretical number would be more likely to be 960). Also, there were relatively few double sized auxiliary cohorts across the Empire and I have never heard of five of them being bunched together within the same province.Having mentioned all this, you could start believed that I had mixed views about this book. This would be far from the truth because it is a rather superb and exciting read. For me, it turned out to be one of these books which I was simply unable to put down once I got started. Four strong stars.

I felt the fourth book, although readable had been written to meet a deadline, and the fifth book in the series I did not enjoy too much. It was really 2 different stories, with the Druids as the common thread.In this new book, however, Mr. fabbri is back to his very best. A cracking read which I really enjoyed. I now look forward to more books in this series and to Vespasian's continued rise through the social strata of Rome. Students of a Rome will know how far he actually got, so roll on the ultimate promotion!

By Wayne Masters This whole series gives a wonderful researched insight into the Western World's development of so called civilization. It is disheartening to realise that thousands of years of so called development has not changed anything as far as greed and the lust for power and personal advancement is still the same in our leaders as it was ovwer 2000 years ago!The character development over the series has been excellent, but I must admit the escape through the midst of the Parthian Empire stretches the believeability of the story. All in all a great read and I look forward to the next instalment.

Most of the text deals with personal feelings historical facts. Most of the writing dealing with air combat deals with events prior to Battle of Britain. The events once he gets to the Battle of Britain for the most part historical and he only describes a few related to the air war.A great deal of text is devoted to girl/boy relationships. Very disappointed in book overall his others read much better.

Coyne Secrets of the Royal Blood takes the reader on a fascinating journey into a time gone by, weaving historical facts with compelling fiction about Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. The author, whose writing is impeccable, left me seriously questioning what people have been told for over two thousand years, about these historical figures. Mr. DiFazio leaves no stone unturned in his depictions of what already is a riveting story about a man and woman who changed the world. This is a book I am reading a second time because it was so good and so filled with historical details heretofore unknown to me and most likely many others. Enjoy this read and get ready to be spellbound!

It talks about the spiritual disciplines of the Christian faith in an approachable manner. It's as appropriate for teaching new believers as it is for encouraging more mature ones. I love it. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn some practical was to draw near to the Lord. I know that it will encourage your spirit.

Hearts for the Kingdom By Saleslady371 Hearts for the Kingdom: Christ Revealed in the Hearts of His People is a good review of Christian disciplines and principles for seasoned Christians as well as encouragement for brand new believers. I read my book with an opened journal at my side, but this book would also be advantageous to discuss in a small group setting. The author shares personal stories that emphasize his teaching in many chapters such as overcoming, worship, repentance, serving, forgiveness, etc., adding down-to-earth demonstrations of Christian beliefs. I found myself examining my own heart as I reflected on the questions posed at the end of each chapter. Cho Larson teaches us, that as Christians, it’s vital to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God who redeemed mankind from their sins so that we can enjoy a victorious life as opposed to practicing religion that does not stem from a contrite, yielded heart. This teacher-author holds his reader’s heart ever so lovingly in his gentle, yet absolute approach to the concepts of Christianity. The book imparts a desire to search our hearts for anything that would stand in the way of drawing close to our Father God, embracing the teachings of Jesus and leaning on the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth. It left me feeling extravagantly loved by my Savior. I highly recommend it.

Ardizzone, the author of two previous novels (Heart of the Order, etc.) and a story collection (Taking It Home: Stories from the Neighborhood), doesn't cleave to conventional narrative hereAeach chapter is a distinct vignette, with occasional overlaps as the characters intersectAso he depends instead on exquisite language and anecdotal charm to propel the narrative. The cumulative effect is of a kind of Sicilian Canterbury Tales, rich with fable and folklore and religion even as it traces a familiar pattern of immigrants struggling to survive in a hostile new world. One by one Papa Santuzzu sends his seven children off to "La Merica," while he remains in Sicily with his dead wife and his hard patch of garden dirt. But the gesture, intended to save his family from a life of poverty, inevitably drives them apart; in America, the siblings scatter from coast to coast and reunite only when fate and an unexpected funeral pull them back together. The novel, then, becomes a eulogy for a lost culture. Ardizzone nods to traditional immigrant tales: scenes of Ellis Island, sweatshops and brutal discrimination at the hands of the upper class. But the book's lasting power derives less from its pointed, perfunctory snapshots than from Ardizzone's sharp metaphors: when the police shoot a striking worker, for instance, she makes "a bird's nest of her thin, white fingers" to cover her wound; for most readers, that bird's nest will linger longer than the unjust death. From Library Journal Ardizzone's third novel is not your typical immigrant story. When the seven children of Papa Santuzzu emigrate from rural Sicily to La Merica, they do so one or two or three at a time. This allows Ardizzone, better known for short stories (Larabi's Ox, LJ 9/15/96), to travel back and forth in time and geography, relating magical homeland stories as preludes to immigrant realism. In Sicily, dreams mix with visions, folktales overtake events, witches cast spells on landowners, dogs and wolves talk, and ewes give birth to 87,000 human children. In the end, Santuzzu's grandson returns to the "garden," where Santuzzu will live again, time bending back on itself through the family's history. Ardizzone's fascinating work is an intriguing addition to the smallish group of Italian immigrant novels. More literary than literal, the book reads as if told by ghosts around an open fire. By Terry Baraldi It always amazes me when a male author can cross the gender line and write from a profoundly feminine point of view. Using the voices of husbands and wives, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, Tony Ardizzone teaches us the simple wisdom that underlies all the folktales and traditions heard since childhood at family feasts and gatherings. Now you will know why we pray to St Anthony when we lose something, or why we "make the horns"just so.But what was most surprising and unexpected was Mr. Ardizzone's feminist take on the goings on in Heaven. Who doesn't know that Mama is the power behind the throne?Because this book is written as a series of vignettes, it can be read straight through or chapter by chapter. Whichever route you take, you will return to it again and again. A keeper.

Raimo This book satisfies that part of me that loves short stories, the part that loves novels, and the part that loves series--for it is all of those things wrapped in one. With it's intertwined, yet distinct stories told in the voice of each of Papa Santuzzu's family members, you learn all about this vibrant Sicilian family's trials and triumphs both in Sicily and "La Merica." I especially enjoyed the perspective that one family member would sometimes give to another's story. Some sections are stronger than others, but most surely hit their mark. The book is written in a fable-y style that reminded me a bit of some of Salman Rushdie's work (especially Haroun and the Sea of Stories), while the intertwined story structure reminded me of another wonderful book, A Place Where the Sea Remembers, by Sandra Benitez. Enjoy this book, and pass it on.

Fascinating read about three generations of Sicilian family By A Customer The novel is really a series of inter-related short stories about the Santuzzu family of Sicily. Beginning with Papa Santuzzu, the novel follows the immigration of each of his children to the United States. Each chapter is told by different members of the Santuzzu family as they survive harsh lives in Sicily through their journies to America and into lives in a new country. Each chapter reveals information about the family. Sometimes stories are repeated but they are told by a different family member, thus allowing varying viewpoints to be explored. The novel really begins to cook with the chapter "Cavadduzzo's of Cicero" and is at its richest in the chapter "Black Madonna." Ardizzone has a wonderful knack for probing the depths of emotional pain to reveal the beauty in lives spent in struggle. Readers who like this book should get Ardizzone's earlier work, "Larabi's Ox." It's an excellent read and gives an exquisite glimpse into the author's talent that is so evident in "In the Garden of Papa Santuzzu."

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Owen Glendower, Welsh Hero! By Kimberly Gelderman This is the story of the larger-than-life hero of the Welsh, Owen Glendower. The story takes place in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The story is told by several narratives of main characters in the novel such as: Geoffrey Chaucer, Lady Hanmer of Flintshire-later his wife, Griffith Lloyd-Owen's bard among other characters. Owen is the last Welsh Prince of Wales with a personality and physical presence that is striking for a man, from what was considered a wild and subject courntry of England.He struggles with his desire for peace while at the same time he wages war on England to recognize Wale's independence. A complex, exciting story of a man who would be king of Wales, but really didn't want to.This is an out-of-print books, however I found a copy easily enough, and is well worth the effort and time to read. Like all of Rofheart's books they are narratives of several characters, some historical, others fictional.

Handsome, educated, well-traveled, and cosmopolitan, Rofheart paints Glendower as a renaissance man, raised during a time of peace and inclusion for the Welsh, as the English were beginning to loosen harsh, restrictive laws from earlier wars. But all that changed when Edward III's grandson, Richard II was forced to abdicate and then was murdered by his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV). Welsh sympathies fell on the side of Richard, leading to a revolt against Bolingbroke.Divided into six first-person narratives, one by Owen and five other individuals who know him, Rofheart conveys through their eyes Glendower's story and the unity and sense of community of the Welsh, their individualism and their mysticism, their love of poetry, their open, more tolerant society, and their stubborn fight against the encroachment of an English feudal society that meant slavery for them.

Organic homemade hair products are indeed better and less harmful then commercial products simply because of the fact that commercial products contain chemicals and they are not environment friendly and this book provides prof for that claim. I love this book, it's informative and has such a great recipes for all kind of natural shampoos and conditioners and my personal favorite is Coconut hair conditioner! Try it!

I had never really thought much about making my own hair care products until I cam across this book. The instructions and ingredients are clear, concise and anyone can make their own products. I'm excited about the money I will save. Very happy I downloaded this book.

One recipe for Apple Cider Vinegar Castile Soap lists 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar then below that it has 2 apple cider vinegar. 2 What? An additional 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or was this meant to be some other ingredient. Because of this I gave the book 4 stars. FYI - I did not read the book but I did skim through the entire thing.
